The renewables financing group (team of approximately 15) helps build renewable energy in the U.S. by representing clients who provide funding to solar, battery storage, and other clean technologies. Most of our clients are tax credit buyers, investors, or lenders. We help finance approximately 150-200 impactful projects per year. We are seeking a smart, motivated, and friendly individual who wants to learn to finance renewable energy projects and help us close meaningful transactions. This is a partner track position, with significant financial and professional upside.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
- Document Drafting & Management: Draft, review, and revise all necessary transaction documents for clients, ensuring they meet legal standards, regulatory requirements and any client-required terms and conditions.
- Advice & Counsel: Provide sound legal opinions and strategic counsel to clients regarding their transaction and the underlying renewable energy project.
- Negotiation: Respond to opposing parties’ comments to transaction documents, engage in negotiations with opposing parties, clients, and other stakeholders, aiming for successful outcomes while protecting the client’s interests.
- Project Diligence: Analyze property- and entity-related due diligence to confirm legal compliance, assess transaction risks, and support the successful acquisition, financing, and development.
- Client & Team Communication: Maintain consistent and clear communication with clients and internal team about the progress and status of assigned matters, ensuring all parties are informed.

QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIRED:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in Minnesota, or eligible for admission to the Minnesota Bar within a specified period after hire.
QUALIFICATIONS, PREFERRED:
- Preference for candidates who have taken tax courses.
- Solid academic credentials.
- Prior transaction experience is a plus.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Primarily will be working in person in the Minneapolis office. Working remote is available only on a limited basis.
- Requires use of office equipment, such as computers, phones, and copiers.
- Requires sitting and computer-related activities for extended periods of time.
- Requires occasional lifting up to and exceeding 20 pounds.
- Work may require more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.
SALARY & BENEFITS
Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $200,000 - $260,000 annually.
Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. Winthrop & Weinstine reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualifications of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
