Energy Jobs in Pittsburgh: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a energy job in Pittsburgh?
The strongest entry point in Pittsburgh is targeting utilities, natural gas pipeline operators, and the growing clean energy and battery technology sector anchored at Hazelwood Green. Employers in these sectors consistently hire engineers, technicians, project coordinators, and operations staff. Candidates with hands-on field experience, relevant certifications, and familiarity with Pennsylvania's energy grid infrastructure stand out in a market that rewards practical, site-ready skills over generalist backgrounds.
Which companies hire energys in Pittsburgh?
Companies currently hiring energys in Pittsburgh include Hatch, Deloitte, and Dr Home Rx, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Pittsburgh's energy employer mix ranges from legacy utilities and natural gas distributors to newer clean energy developers and advanced manufacturing firms tied to the region's industrial redevelopment.
Are there remote energy jobs in Pittsburgh?
Yes, though remote availability depends heavily on the role. Field, plant, and grid operations positions are almost always on-site, while energy analysts, project managers, regulatory affairs specialists, and software roles tied to grid technology can work remotely. About 57% of energy openings tied to Pittsburgh are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with analytical and policy-facing roles making up most of that share.
How can I get a energy job in Pittsburgh with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Pittsburgh is through utility apprenticeship programs and technician trainee roles with regional natural gas and electric operators, which provide structured on-the-job training. Clean energy companies operating out of Hazelwood Green and the broader Mon Valley redevelopment zone also hire entry-level project assistants and site coordinators. A background in mechanical or electrical trades, even without a four-year degree, opens doors with Pittsburgh's industrial energy employers.
Which industries hire the most energys in Pittsburgh?
The sectors hiring the most energys in Pittsburgh are Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Pittsburgh's combination of legacy fossil fuel infrastructure, active pipeline networks, and emerging clean energy investment at redeveloped industrial sites makes it one of the more varied energy job markets in the mid-Atlantic region.
