Environmental Geologist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a environmental geologist in Texas?
You become an environmental geologist in Texas by earning at least a bachelor's degree in geoscience or a closely related field and then obtaining licensure through the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists, which requires passing the National Association of State Boards of Geology exam and documenting qualifying work experience. Most Texas employers require or strongly prefer the Licensed Professional Geoscientist credential for independent field work and report signing, so pursuing licensure early is the most direct path to full employment.
How much do environmental geologists make in Texas?
Environmental geologists in Texas earn a median of about $145,220 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $60,100 for the lowest 10% to over $287,180 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire environmental geologists in Texas?
Employers hiring environmental geologists in Texas right now include GSI Environmental, GHD, and Terracon Consultants, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's dense concentration of oil and gas operators, petrochemical facilities, and large environmental consulting firms means hiring activity stays consistent year-round across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most environmental geologist jobs?
Houston, Austin, and Midland have the most environmental geologist openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its concentration of petrochemical plants, refineries, and the headquarters of major environmental consulting firms that support the energy corridor, while Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio draw consistent demand from commercial development, brownfield redevelopment projects, and regional TCEQ compliance work.
Are there remote environmental geologist jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Environmental geology is a fundamentally field-based discipline, so fully remote positions are limited to data review, report writing, and regulatory coordination roles. About 15% of environmental geologist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work requires on-site sampling and monitoring. The parts of the role most compatible with remote work are technical report preparation and client or agency communication.
How can I get hired as a environmental geologist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an environmental field technician role with a large Texas-based consulting firm such as AECOM, Arcadis, or Terracon, which routinely hire recent geoscience graduates for supervised field work. Internships through the Texas A&M, University of Texas, and University of Houston geoscience programs are a common foot in the door, and completing your EIT paperwork toward the Texas Professional Geoscientist license immediately signals commitment to employers screening new-grad applications.
Where can I find and apply to environmental geologist jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to environmental geologist jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across consulting firms, energy companies, and government contractors. Find roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly to each one.
