Environmental Project Coordinator Jobs in Rhode Island: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a environmental project coordinator in Rhode Island?
Most environmental project coordinator roles in Rhode Island require a bachelor's degree in environmental science, geology, civil engineering, or a related field. Rhode Island does not require a state-issued license specifically for this role, but coordinators working on remediation sites must hold or obtain HAZWOPER certification. Familiarity with Rhode Island DEM permitting processes and Coastal Resources Management Council regulations gives candidates a clear edge with local consulting firms and state agencies.
How much do environmental project coordinators make in Rhode Island?
Environmental project coordinators in Rhode Island earn a median of about $104,680 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $63,750 for the lowest 10% to over $170,050 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire environmental project coordinators in Rhode Island?
Rhode Island environmental project coordinator roles are posted by Amgen, AECOM, and VHB and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Rhode Island's concentration of environmental consulting firms, state agencies, and federally funded coastal programs creates consistent year-round demand for project coordination staff.
Which Rhode Island cities have the most environmental project coordinator jobs?
Providence, West Greenwich, and Newport account for the largest share of environmental project coordinator openings in Rhode Island. Providence anchors the market as the state's administrative and consulting hub, while Cranston hosts several regional environmental firm offices, and Narragansett draws openings tied to coastal research institutions and marine program work through the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography.
Are there remote environmental project coordinator jobs in Rhode Island?
Yes, but they're limited. About 38% of environmental project coordinator openings tied to Rhode Island are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of site visits, field sampling, and agency meetings that define much of the role. Report writing, data review, and regulatory correspondence are the tasks most commonly performed remotely within hybrid arrangements.
How can I get hired as a environmental project coordinator in Rhode Island with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an environmental technician or field sampler role with a Rhode Island consulting firm, which builds the site experience and HAZWOPER certification that coordinators need. GZA GeoEnvironmental and Tetra Tech's New England offices regularly hire entry-level technicians, and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management offers seasonal and program assistant positions that provide direct regulatory exposure. A HAZWOPER card and any CRMC or DEM permit shadowing during an internship moves a new graduate ahead of peers.
Where can I find and apply to environmental project coordinator jobs in Rhode Island?
You can find and apply to environmental project coordinator jobs in Rhode Island on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings in the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your background and target area, and apply directly to the ones that match.
