How do I get a executive director of development job in Minneapolis?
Start by targeting Minneapolis's dense nonprofit sector, where healthcare foundations, arts organizations, and social service agencies concentrate most of these roles. The Twin Cities philanthropy community is relationship-driven, so visibility through the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits and local AFP chapter events matters. Candidates with major gifts experience, a proven donor portfolio, and familiarity with Minnesota's grant landscape have the clearest edge over candidates without local market context.
Which companies hire executive director of developments in Minneapolis?

Minneapolis employers in this space skew toward community foundations, hospital systems with charitable arms, and mid-size nonprofits anchored in neighborhoods like Phillips, Whittier, and the Warehouse District.
Are there remote executive director of development jobs in Minneapolis?
Yes, though partially, since executive director of development roles depend heavily on in-person donor cultivation and community presence. About 56% of executive director of development openings tied to Minneapolis are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with most flexibility concentrated in the grant writing, strategy, and reporting functions rather than frontline relationship work.
How can I get a executive director of development job in Minneapolis with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Minneapolis is through a development associate or major gifts officer role at one of the city's many mid-size nonprofits, particularly those in healthcare, housing, or education. Organizations like community development corporations in North Minneapolis and arts institutions along Nicollet Mall regularly hire emerging fundraisers.
