Field Application Engineer Jobs in San Jose: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a field application engineer job in San Jose?
Focus on semiconductor, EDA, and enterprise networking employers concentrated in North San Jose and the Alviso tech corridor, where the highest density of field application engineer openings cluster. Hands-on experience with lab equipment, application scripting, or pre-sales technical support gives candidates a clear edge here. Familiarity with the specific product categories those San Jose hardware and chip-design firms sell, such as FPGAs, power ICs, or network switches, makes a resume stand out faster than general engineering credentials alone.
Which companies hire field application engineers in San Jose?
Companies currently hiring field application engineers in San Jose include Teradyne, SK Hynix America, and NXP Semiconductors, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. San Jose's employer mix leans heavily toward semiconductor manufacturers, EDA software developers, and enterprise networking hardware vendors, so most openings come from established tech firms rather than startups.
Are there remote field application engineer jobs in San Jose?
Yes, though remote availability is limited for this role because it typically requires on-site customer visits, hardware demos, and lab work. About 50% of field application engineer openings tied to San Jose are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with most flexibility concentrated in the pre-sales technical support and product training portions of the job rather than hands-on deployment work.
How can I get a field application engineer job in San Jose with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in San Jose is through an associate field applications engineer or technical support engineer role at one of the city's mid-size semiconductor or test-and-measurement companies, which regularly hire recent engineering graduates. Internships at North San Jose hardware firms convert to full-time positions more reliably than cold applications. A strong foundation in circuit analysis, signal integrity, or software-defined networking, paired with any customer-facing lab or demo experience, opens doors faster than GPA alone.
Which industries hire the most field application engineers in San Jose?
San Jose field application engineer roles concentrate in Technology & Software and Electronics & Hardware, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. San Jose's position at the center of Silicon Valley means semiconductor design, EDA tooling, and enterprise networking infrastructure drive the bulk of local demand for engineers who bridge technical depth with direct customer engagement.
