Field Application Scientist Jobs in Kansas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a field application scientist in Kansas?
Most field application scientist roles in Kansas require a bachelor's degree in life sciences, biochemistry, agronomy, or a related discipline, and no state-issued license is mandated for the position itself. Employers in agricultural biotechnology, such as those near Manhattan and the Kansas City corridor, typically expect hands-on laboratory or field research experience gained through university programs, graduate work, or internships. Candidates who build proficiency with instrumentation platforms and customer-facing communication during their studies are most competitive.
How much do field application scientists make in Kansas?
Field application scientists in Kansas earn a median of about $98,000 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $69,990 for the lowest 10% to over $159,210 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire field application scientists in Kansas?
Kansas field application scientist roles are posted by Garmin, Smith & Loveless, and Associated Wholesale Grocers and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Kansas's strong agricultural research base and growing clinical diagnostics sector mean openings appear across both established life science companies and university-affiliated research programs throughout the state.
Which Kansas cities have the most field application scientist jobs?
Lenexa, Topeka, and Olathe lead Kansas for field application scientist openings. Wichita's manufacturing and healthcare infrastructure supports diagnostics and instrumentation roles, the Kansas City metro draws employers in agricultural biotech and molecular biology tools given its proximity to major research corridors, and Manhattan benefits from Kansas State University's agricultural science programs and the companies that cluster around them.
Are there remote field application scientist jobs in Kansas?
Yes, but they're rare. The role is fundamentally hands-on, requiring on-site instrument demonstrations, customer training, and field troubleshooting that cannot be done remotely. About 47% of field application scientist openings tied to Kansas are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions tend to concentrate the remote work in administrative tasks such as reporting, proposal writing, and virtual customer follow-up.
How can I get hired as a field application scientist in Kansas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to application support specialist or laboratory technician roles at Kansas-based life science companies, then moving laterally once you have direct product and customer exposure. Bayer Crop Science operations in Kansas and clinical laboratory employers in Wichita frequently hire recent graduates with strong academic lab backgrounds into associate scientist or technical support positions that feed into field roles. Completing graduate research or an internship at Kansas State University or the University of Kansas gives candidates a concrete portfolio, and gaining familiarity with a major instrument platform accelerates the transition into a field-facing position.
Where can I find and apply to field application scientist jobs in Kansas?
You can find and apply to field application scientist jobs in Kansas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Kansas openings across agricultural biotech, clinical diagnostics, and laboratory instrumentation employers. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly from each listing.
