Field Service Specialist Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a field service specialist in Ohio?
Most field service specialist roles in Ohio require at minimum an associate degree in electronics technology, mechatronics, or a related technical discipline, often paired with an OEM or vendor certification specific to the equipment you will service. Ohio does not require a single statewide license for field service specialists as a category, but roles in medical equipment, HVAC, or elevator systems may require Ohio-specific credentials through the Ohio Department of Commerce or the State Medical Board depending on the equipment type. Employers typically value hands-on experience through co-ops, apprenticeships, or military technical training.
Which companies hire field service specialists in Ohio?
Companies currently hiring field service specialists in Ohio include Advanced Technology Services, Kenco, and CommonSpirit Health, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of October 2026. Ohio's dense concentration of manufacturing plants, hospital networks, and telecommunications infrastructure creates consistent demand for field service coverage across both urban and rural parts of the state.
Which Ohio cities have the most field service specialist jobs?
Columbus, Ohio, and Akron account for the largest share of field service specialist openings in Ohio. Columbus leads because of its concentration of health system headquarters, logistics companies, and technology operations, while Cleveland's legacy industrial and medical device sector drives demand there, and Cincinnati's manufacturing base and corporate headquarters for companies like Parker Hannifin and Procter and Gamble support consistent field service hiring in the southwest corridor.
Are there remote field service specialist jobs in Ohio?
Yes, but they're rare. The role is fundamentally hands-on, requiring on-site equipment installation, repair, and customer interaction, which limits how much of the work can be done remotely. About 0% of field service specialist openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of October 2026, and those positions tend to involve technical support coordination, documentation review, or remote diagnostics for connected equipment rather than direct hardware service.
How can I get hired as a field service specialist in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing an associate degree in electronics or mechatronics at an Ohio technical college such as Columbus State, Sinclair, or Cuyahoga Community College, then applying to entry-level field technician or bench repair roles at medical device companies, telecommunications contractors, or industrial equipment distributors operating in Ohio. Large employers like Siemens and Cardinal Health run structured new-hire or apprenticeship pipelines that bring on candidates with technical education but limited field time. Earning an OEM certification before applying, even as a student, gives candidates a concrete edge over others at the same experience level.
Where can I find and apply to field service specialist jobs in Ohio?
You can find and apply to field service specialist jobs in Ohio directly on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from Ohio employers. Search the listings, identify the roles that match your background and target location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
