Entry Level Flight Software Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level flight software engineer job?
Employers hiring at this level look for hands-on experience with real-time operating systems, C or C++ proficiency, and familiarity with safety-critical software standards like DO-178C. A capstone project, senior design competition entry, or aerospace internship carries significant weight. Demonstrating version control discipline, hardware-in-the-loop testing exposure, and a willingness to pursue a security clearance gives entry level candidates a clear edge in screening.
Which companies hire entry level flight software engineers?
Companies hiring entry level flight software engineers right now include Garmin, Peraton, and Vermeer, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level covers defense primes, commercial launch providers, and government-adjacent contractors, many of which run structured new-grad cohort programs with mentorship built in.
Are there remote entry level flight software engineer jobs?
Yes, though most roles at this level require at least partial on-site work due to hardware access and clearance requirements. About 0% of entry level flight software engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with hybrid arrangements more common than fully remote. On-site positions often provide the closest access to flight hardware and senior mentorship that accelerates early-career growth.
Are these new grad flight software engineer jobs?
Yes, these listings include new grad, recent graduate, and junior flight software engineer roles. A posting is new-grad friendly when it welcomes zero to two years of experience, counts internships or co-ops as qualifying background, or accepts a strong portfolio in place of industry tenure. Many entry level postings explicitly state that academic projects or thesis work in avionics, guidance systems, or embedded software development is relevant experience.
Which industries hire the most entry level flight software engineers?
Entry Level flight software engineer roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services, Aerospace & Defense, and Education, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Those sectors drive hiring at this level because they combine active product development cycles with regulatory requirements for rigorous software verification, creating a steady need for junior engineers who can grow into safety-critical workflows from day one.
