Functional Analyst Jobs in Houston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a functional analyst job in Houston?
The strongest entry point in Houston is targeting the energy sector, healthcare systems, and the large financial services firms clustered Downtown and in Greenway Plaza. Candidates who know ERP systems like SAP or Oracle, or who have experience with clinical or oil-and-gas operations workflows, stand out. Tailoring your resume to the specific operational environment of each employer type gives you a clear edge in this market.
Which companies hire functional analysts in Houston?
Companies currently hiring functional analysts in Houston include KBR, Sysco, and Targa Resources, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Houston's mix of integrated energy majors, large hospital systems anchored around the Texas Medical Center, and regional banks means demand comes from several distinct employer types rather than a single dominant sector.
Are there remote functional analyst jobs in Houston?
Yes, though it depends on the industry. Functional analyst roles tied to energy field operations or clinical systems often require on-site presence, while those in enterprise software, finance, and back-office IT tend to be more remote-friendly. About 56% of functional analyst openings tied to Houston are remote or hybrid as of August 2026. The most remote-friendly roles in Houston's market are typically in software implementation and financial systems support.
How can I get a functional analyst job in Houston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Houston is moving laterally from a business operations or IT support role within the energy, healthcare, or logistics sectors that dominate local hiring. Large hospital networks around the Texas Medical Center and midsize energy services firms regularly hire junior business analysts and systems support specialists who can grow into functional analyst roles. Certifications in SAP, Salesforce, or a relevant ERP platform help you compete without years of dedicated functional analyst experience.
Which industries hire the most functional analysts in Houston?
Houston functional analyst roles concentrate in Energy, Aerospace & Defense, and Chemicals & Materials, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Houston's identity as a global energy hub, combined with one of the largest medical complexes in the country and a growing financial services corridor Downtown, creates consistent cross-sector demand for analysts who can bridge business processes and technical systems.
