Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as an AI Product Owner
Frame your credentials for EB-2 eligibility
PERM petitions for AI Product Owner roles typically require a bachelor's degree plus five years of progressive experience, or a master's in computer science, data science, or a related field. Document your advanced degree or equivalent credentials before targeting sponsors.
Identify employers with active PERM filing history
Search DOL's OFLC Wage Search to find companies that have filed PERM applications for AI or product roles. Employers with recent certified LCAs for similar titles are far more likely to sponsor new candidates than those with no filing history.
Use Migrate Mate to filter green card sponsoring roles
Filter AI Product Owner openings by employers who have sponsored green cards before. Migrate Mate surfaces this PERM filing history by employer and role so you're not applying blindly to companies that have never initiated a labor certification.
Align your O*NET profile before the PERM job description is drafted
The DOL audits PERM job descriptions against O*NET's AI and product management occupation profiles. Ask your employer to include specific requirements tied to AI systems, machine learning roadmaps, or cross-functional product delivery so the role clearly meets specialty occupation standards.
Negotiate the I-140 filing timeline into your offer
PERM certification alone can take 12 to 18 months. Once PERM is approved, push for your employer to file the I-140 petition with USCIS promptly rather than deferring it, which locks in your priority date and starts the clock toward adjustment of status.
Understand how your country of birth affects your green card wait
EB-2 and EB-3 priority dates are current for most nationalities, but applicants born in India or China face multi-year backlogs regardless of role. Confirm your country of birth's cutoff date in the USCIS Visa Bulletin before accepting a sponsorship offer.
Green Card AI Product Owner: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an AI Product Owner role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most AI Product Owner positions qualify for both EB-2 and EB-3 depending on how the employer drafts the job requirements. EB-2 applies when the role requires an advanced degree or the equivalent, while EB-3 covers positions requiring a bachelor's degree plus experience. Because many employers define AI Product Owner roles around a master's in computer science, data science, or a related field, EB-2 is common, but EB-3 remains a valid path when degree requirements are set at the bachelor's level.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
H-1B visa grants temporary work authorization for three years, is subject to an annual lottery, and must be renewed. PERM-based green card sponsorship leads to permanent residency with no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most nationalities, no renewal requirement, and no lottery. The process is longer, typically two to four years from PERM filing to a green card for applicants born outside India or China, but the outcome is permanent status rather than a visa tied to a single employer.
What does the PERM labor certification process involve for AI Product Owner roles?
PERM requires your employer to conduct a supervised recruitment campaign demonstrating that no qualified U.S. worker applied for the role. The DOL reviews the job description, prevailing wage determination, and recruitment records before certifying the application. For AI Product Owner roles, the job description must specify technical requirements tied to AI systems or machine learning product delivery, not just general product management duties, to satisfy specialty occupation standards during any audit.
How can I find employers who have sponsored green cards for AI Product Owner roles before?
DOL publishes certified PERM applications through OFLC disclosure data, which shows which employers have successfully sponsored workers in AI and product management roles. Reviewing this data manually requires downloading and filtering large files. Migrate Mate aggregates this information by job title and employer so you can quickly identify companies with verified green card sponsorship history for roles matching AI Product Owner without sorting through raw government datasets.
Can I change employers after my I-140 is approved but before I get my green card?
Yes. Once your I-140 petition has been approved and your priority date is current or your case has been pending for 180 days or more, portability rules under AC21 allow you to change to a similar role in the same or a comparable occupation without restarting the PERM process. For AI Product Owner candidates, the new role must involve similar AI product leadership duties. Your priority date is preserved, which matters significantly if you were born in a high-backlog country.
