Attorney Green Card Jobs
Attorney roles at U.S. law firms and corporate legal departments can qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process. Your employer files the PERM application with DOL, then petitions USCIS for permanent residency, making this a direct path to a green card rather than a temporary work visa.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as an Attorney
Credential your foreign law degree early
U.S. employers sponsoring attorneys under PERM will need to establish your foreign law degree meets the role's educational requirements. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member agency before you start applying so delays don't stall your PERM filing.
Target employers with in-house immigration counsel
Large law firms and corporate legal departments with dedicated immigration staff process PERM applications faster and with fewer errors. Prioritize employers whose legal or HR team already handles foreign national attorneys regularly, not those treating it as a one-off.
Search green card sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Attorney job listings by employers with active EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history. You'll skip the research step of identifying which firms have actually filed PERM applications for legal roles.
Clarify bar admission requirements before PERM
PERM job requirements must reflect what the role genuinely needs, not what you happen to have. If the position requires bar admission in a specific state, confirm whether your foreign license or LLM qualifies, since DOL audits flag mismatched credential requirements.
Negotiate the PERM filing timeline into your offer
PERM preparation and DOL processing can take 12 to 18 months before your I-140 petition even reaches USCIS. Ask during the offer stage when the employer plans to initiate PERM, not after you start, so your green card clock starts as early as possible.
Check the OFLC Wage Search before salary negotiations
DOL requires PERM-sponsored attorneys to be paid at least the prevailing wage for the role and location. Review the OFLC Wage Search for your specific job title and geography before accepting an offer so your agreed salary satisfies DOL requirements from day one.

Find Attorney JobsAttorney Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Attorney roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Attorney positions qualify for EB-2 sponsorship because they require a Juris Doctor or equivalent advanced degree, which meets the advanced-degree threshold under EB-2. Roles where a bachelor's degree plus two years of experience is the stated minimum may fall under EB-3 instead. Your employer's PERM filing will specify the category based on the job's actual requirements, not your individual credentials.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for Attorney jobs?
Unlike H-1B, green card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 has no annual lottery and no two- or three-year renewal cycle. The PERM process leads to permanent residency, not temporary status. The trade-off is timeline: PERM, I-140, and adjustment of status typically take two to four years for most countries, compared to H-1B approval in a few months. For Indian and Chinese nationals, EB-2 and EB-3 priority date backlogs can extend that timeline significantly.
What does the PERM labor certification process involve for an Attorney role?
Your employer must run a DOL-supervised recruitment process demonstrating no qualified U.S. workers are available for the specific Attorney position. This includes placing job ads, documenting applicants, and filing the PERM application with DOL. The job requirements in the PERM must match what the role genuinely requires, which is why employers cannot retroactively add credentials they didn't advertise during recruitment.
How do I find Attorney jobs where the employer will sponsor a green card?
Most general job listings don't specify whether an employer will sponsor green cards, which makes filtering difficult. Migrate Mate lets you search Attorney openings by employers with verified EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history, so you're applying to roles where PERM filing is already part of the employer's standard hiring process for foreign nationals.
Can my foreign law degree satisfy the PERM educational requirement for U.S. Attorney roles?
It can, but it requires documentation. DOL accepts foreign degrees that are equivalent to a U.S. Juris Doctor or relevant bachelor's degree, provided you obtain a credential evaluation from a recognized evaluation agency. Some employers also require bar admission in a specific U.S. state, so check whether the posted job description lists state bar membership as a requirement before applying.
