Boilermaker Green Card Jobs
Boilermaker roles qualify for EB-3 skilled worker sponsorship, and some senior or supervisory positions may meet EB-2 criteria. Employers file a PERM labor certification with DOL before sponsoring your green card. Finding employers with active sponsorship history is the first step toward permanent residency.

Document your apprenticeship and journeyman credentials
PERM requires proving you meet the job's minimum requirements before the employer files. Gather your union card, apprenticeship completion certificates, and any state journeyman licenses now, DOL audits frequently request these.
Target industrial contractors with federal project histories
Boilermaker sponsorships cluster at large industrial contractors, refineries, and power plant operators with ongoing federal or infrastructure contracts. These employers run repeat PERM filings and already understand the process, shortening your path to an offer.
Search for sponsors using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Boilermaker job postings by employers with green card sponsorship history. This cuts out roles where sponsorship is unlikely and focuses your applications on employers who've done it before.
Understand the prevailing wage before negotiating
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your location and job level under PERM rules. Look up your area's wage tiers using the OFLC Wage Search before any salary conversation so you know the floor.
Confirm the employer will file I-140 promptly after PERM
PERM certification alone doesn't start your priority date clock. The I-140 petition filed with USCIS does. Ask prospective employers whether they file the I-140 concurrently with or immediately after PERM certification to avoid unnecessary delays.
Use your O*NET profile to counter specialty occupation disputes
If a PERM auditor questions whether boilermaker work requires the credentials you hold, the O*NET occupation profile documents the skill level, training requirements, and technical complexity of the role, giving your employer concrete evidence to respond.

Find Boilermaker JobsBoilermaker Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a boilermaker job qualify for EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Yes. Boilermaker roles fall under the EB-3 skilled worker category, which covers occupations requiring at least two years of training or experience. Most journeyman-level boilermaker positions meet this threshold. Your employer initiates the process by filing a PERM labor certification with DOL, then an I-140 petition with USCIS.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for boilermaker roles?
Boilermaker roles rarely qualify for H-1B because H-1B requires a bachelor's degree in a specialty field. Green card sponsorship via EB-3 is a better fit: it covers skilled trades, has no annual lottery, and leads to permanent residency. The timeline is longer, typically two to four years including PERM, but the outcome is permanent status rather than a temporary work visa.
How long does the PERM and green card process take for a boilermaker?
Expect roughly 18 to 36 months from PERM filing to receiving your green card, assuming no audits and a current priority date for your country. DOL currently takes six to twelve months to process PERM applications. USCIS then adjudicates the I-140, followed by adjustment of status or consular processing. Backlogs vary by country of birth.
How do I find boilermaker employers who sponsor green cards?
Search Migrate Mate to filter boilermaker job postings specifically by employers with documented green card sponsorship history. This targets your applications at industrial contractors, utilities, and refineries that have run PERM filings before, so you're not spending time on employers who've never navigated the process.
Can my employer start the PERM process if I'm currently on a work visa?
Yes. PERM is a separate process from your current nonimmigrant status. Your employer can file a PERM labor certification while you remain on a valid work visa. This lets you build priority date history early. USCIS allows concurrent I-485 filing once your priority date is current, regardless of what visa you held when PERM was filed.
