Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship in Bridge Inspector
Document your structural inspection credentials early
Gather your engineering degree transcripts, professional licenses, and any bridge inspection certifications before approaching employers. PERM requires the employer to verify your qualifications match the job requirements precisely, so gaps in documentation stall the process.
Target infrastructure agencies with active PERM filings
State DOTs, transit authorities, and large civil engineering contractors regularly file PERM applications for Bridge Inspectors. Search OFLC public disclosure data to confirm which employers have sponsored this specific occupation, not just engineering roles broadly.
Clarify EB-2 versus EB-3 eligibility with your employer
If your role requires only a bachelor's degree, most employers will file under EB-3. If you hold a master's in civil or structural engineering, push for EB-2 consideration, which can reduce your wait time significantly for many nationalities.
Search green card sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Filter by Bridge Inspector roles at employers with verified green card sponsorship history. Migrate Mate surfaces employers who have filed PERM applications in this occupation, saving you from cold-applying to companies without an active sponsorship process.
Confirm the prevailing wage tier before accepting an offer
Your offered salary must meet the DOL prevailing wage for Bridge Inspector in that location. Use the OFLC Wage Search before negotiations, since a wage level mismatch forces the employer to refile, adding months to your PERM timeline.
Understand PERM advertising requirements affect your start date
DOL requires employers to complete recruitment steps, including job postings and good-faith recruiting, before PERM can be filed. This process typically takes three to six months, so factor that timeline into when you expect your sponsorship case to begin moving.
Green Card Bridge Inspector: Frequently Asked Questions
Which green card category covers Bridge Inspector roles?
Most Bridge Inspector positions qualify under EB-3, which covers skilled workers and professionals requiring at least a bachelor's degree or two years of specialized training. Candidates with a master's degree in civil or structural engineering may qualify under EB-2. Your employer determines the category based on the minimum requirements of the actual position, not your personal qualifications alone.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for Bridge Inspectors?
H-1B visa is a temporary nonimmigrant visa with an annual lottery cap, while PERM sponsorship leads to permanent residency with no lottery. EB-3 has no annual cap at the petition level, though per-country backlogs affect nationals from India and China. The PERM process takes longer overall, typically two to four years from filing to a green card, but the outcome is lawful permanent residency rather than a temporary status you must renew.
Do employers typically pay PERM and green card filing fees for Bridge Inspectors?
Federal regulations prohibit employees from paying PERM labor certification costs, so that portion must be employer-funded. I-140 petition fees are also almost always covered by the employer. I-485 adjustment of status fees are the applicant's responsibility. Confirm the fee arrangement in writing before accepting any sponsorship commitment, since practices vary across state DOTs, engineering firms, and contractors.
How can I find Bridge Inspector jobs that offer green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for Bridge Inspector roles at employers with verified green card sponsorship history, filtering out positions where sponsorship is listed as a vague possibility but never actually filed. This is faster than manually cross-referencing DOL public disclosure files or relying on employer self-reporting during the interview process.
Does a state-issued bridge inspection certification affect my PERM application?
Yes, if the employer lists a state certification such as a National Bridge Inspection Standards qualification as a job requirement, USCIS and DOL expect you to hold it at the time of filing or obtain it before your green card is approved. If you're working toward certification, clarify with your employer whether the PERM job description will require it, since that affects both the prevailing wage tier and your ability to satisfy the job duties at the time of adjustment of status.
