Metallurgical Engineer Green Card Jobs
Metallurgical engineer roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which requires employers to document a domestic recruitment effort before filing. Materials science expertise, process engineering credentials, and advanced-degree backgrounds all strengthen your sponsorship case with U.S. manufacturers and mining operations.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Metallurgical Engineer
Match your credentials to PERM job requirements
PERM labor certifications list minimum education and experience requirements that must match your actual credentials exactly. A mismatch between your foreign degree equivalency and the posted job requirements is one of the most common reasons PERM applications stall before USCIS ever sees them.
Target industries with established PERM filing histories
Steel manufacturing, mining, aerospace materials, and semiconductor fabrication firms file PERM applications for metallurgical engineers regularly. Filtering your job search by employers with active DOL labor certification history puts you in front of hiring managers already familiar with the sponsorship process.
Get a foreign degree equivalency evaluation early
EB-3 skilled worker filings require your foreign engineering degree to be evaluated as equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree. Commission a credential evaluation from a NACES-recognized agency before you start applying so the document is ready when an employer asks.
Understand prevailing wage tiers before salary negotiations
DOL assigns your role a Level I through Level IV prevailing wage using the OFLC Wage Search, and the employer must pay at or above that wage throughout the green card process. Knowing your expected wage tier for your specific job duties and location prevents late-stage offer complications.
Search green-card-specific roles through Migrate Mate
Most general job boards don't filter by employer sponsorship history. Migrate Mate lets you search metallurgical engineer roles by employers with verified EB-2 and EB-3 filing activity, so you spend less time chasing companies that decline to sponsor after the interview stage.
Ask employers about concurrent EB-2 and EB-3 filing
Some employers file both an EB-2 and EB-3 petition simultaneously for the same candidate, giving you two priority dates and preserving optionality if your qualifications are reassessed. Raise this during offer negotiations, not after PERM is already filed.

Find Metallurgical Engineer JobsMetallurgical Engineer Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a metallurgical engineer role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Both categories are available depending on your credentials and the employer's job requirements. EB-2 applies when the position requires an advanced degree or the employer pursues a National Interest Waiver for candidates with strong professional credentials. EB-3 covers roles requiring a bachelor's degree in materials science, metallurgy, or a related engineering field. Your employer's PERM application must reflect whichever category applies to the actual job duties and your qualifications.
How does the green card process differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B sponsorship is temporary and subject to annual lottery selection, which can delay or block employment entirely. The EB-2 and EB-3 green card process runs through PERM labor certification, then an I-140 immigrant petition, then adjustment of status or consular processing. It takes longer overall, typically two to four years for most nationalities, but results in permanent residency and carries no annual cap concerns at the EB-3 category level for most countries outside India and China.
What documentation should I prepare before a metallurgical engineer employer agrees to sponsor me?
Gather your foreign degree credential evaluation from a NACES-recognized agency, a detailed employment history showing progressive metallurgical responsibilities, and any professional engineering licenses or certifications relevant to the specific industry. Employers will need these documents to draft accurate PERM job requirements. Having them ready before the offer stage speeds up the labor certification filing timeline significantly and reduces back-and-forth with immigration counsel.
How do I find metallurgical engineer employers who actively file EB-2 and EB-3 petitions?
Migrate Mate aggregates job listings filtered by employers with verified employment-based green card filing histories, including metallurgical and materials engineering roles at manufacturers, mining companies, and defense contractors. Searching this way lets you prioritize outreach toward employers who have completed PERM filings before, rather than spending time on companies that are unfamiliar with the process or unlikely to commit to a multi-year sponsorship.
Can I change employers after my PERM is filed but before my green card is approved?
Job portability under AC21 allows you to change to a same or similar occupation after your I-140 has been approved and your adjustment of status application has been pending for 180 days or more. For metallurgical engineers, roles in related materials or process engineering disciplines often qualify as sufficiently similar. USCIS evaluates portability on a case-by-case basis using the O*NET occupational classification as one reference point for comparing job duties.
