Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Production Technician
Document your technical credentials before applying
PERM requires your employer to show you meet the minimum job requirements. Gather transcripts, trade certifications, and equipment-specific training records now so your qualifications are ready when the labor certification filing begins.
Target manufacturers enrolled in E-Verify
E-Verify enrollment signals an employer already has an immigration compliance infrastructure in place. Production facilities that routinely hire foreign workers through PERM are far more likely to have established relationships with immigration counsel and understand the sponsorship timeline.
Search green card sponsorship history with Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Production Technician roles by employers with active green card sponsorship history. This surfaces companies that have already filed PERM applications for similar roles, cutting out the guesswork of cold outreach.
Clarify the EB-2 versus EB-3 classification early
Most Production Technician roles qualify under EB-3 as skilled worker positions. If your role requires a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field, ask your employer's attorney whether EB-2 is available, since priority date timelines differ significantly by category.
Ask about prevailing wage determinations before accepting an offer
DOL requires your employer to pay at least the prevailing wage for your occupation and location, set through PERM. Look up the applicable wage tier for your role on the OFLC Wage Search to confirm the offer aligns with what DOL will require before the filing.
Understand how PERM recruitment affects your start date
Before filing PERM, the employer must run a mandatory recruitment campaign, typically lasting 30 to 60 days. Factor this into your timeline when negotiating a start date, since the green card process cannot formally begin until recruitment is complete and documented.

Find Production Technician JobsProduction Technician Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Production Technician role qualify for EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Yes. Production Technician positions typically qualify under the EB-3 skilled worker category, which covers roles requiring at least two years of training or experience. Your employer files a PERM labor certification with DOL to demonstrate no qualified U.S. worker is available, then submits an I-140 immigrant petition to USCIS on your behalf. Most hands-on technical manufacturing roles fit this category cleanly.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B sponsorship is temporary, capped at 85,000 new visas annually, and subject to a lottery. EB-3 PERM sponsorship is permanent and has no annual cap on petitions filed, only on immigrant visas issued. For many countries outside of India and China, EB-3 priority dates are current or move quickly, making green card sponsorship a more direct path to permanent residency than cycling through H-1B renewals.
What documents do I need to support a PERM filing as a Production Technician?
You'll need evidence that you meet the minimum requirements stated in the job description at the time the PERM was filed. That typically means diplomas, trade school certificates, equipment certifications, and letters from prior employers confirming your years of relevant experience. USCIS and DOL will audit these during the I-140 stage, so accuracy between your credentials and the job description is critical.
How do I find Production Technician jobs that offer green card sponsorship?
Standard job searches don't filter by sponsorship type, so most listings won't indicate whether an employer has filed PERM applications before. Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search, letting you find Production Technician roles with employers who have verified green card sponsorship history, so you can focus your applications on companies already set up to sponsor.
Can my employer start the PERM process while I'm on a temporary work visa?
Yes. PERM is a separate process from your current work authorization status. Your employer can file the PERM labor certification while you remain on an H-1B, TN, or other temporary visa. Once the PERM is certified and the I-140 is approved, you apply for adjustment of status or consular processing. Your temporary visa needs to remain valid throughout, so coordinate timing carefully with your employer's immigration attorney.
