Fire Protection Engineer Green Card Jobs
Fire Protection Engineer roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which requires your employer to demonstrate no qualified U.S. worker is available. Engineering firms, municipalities, and industrial contractors regularly sponsor foreign fire protection professionals for permanent residency.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Fire Protection Engineer
Verify your degree meets PERM requirements
PERM job requirements must match your actual credentials. If your fire protection engineering degree is from a non-U.S. institution, get a credential evaluation confirming U.S. equivalency before your employer files, or DOL may reject the application.
Search DOL disclosure data for active sponsors
PERM filings are public record. Use the OFLC Wage Search to filter by SOC code 17-2111 and identify engineering firms and contractors that have recently sponsored fire protection engineers, then target those employers directly.
Target employers with PE licensure support programs
Many PERM job descriptions for fire protection engineers require or prefer a Professional Engineer license. Employers who sponsor PE exam costs and exam time are more likely to also sponsor green cards, since both reflect long-term retention intent.
Clarify EB-2 vs EB-3 eligibility before accepting an offer
EB-2 requires a master's degree or bachelor's degree plus five years of progressive experience. EB-3 covers roles needing a bachelor's degree. Your priority date and country of birth affect which category gives you a faster path to permanent residency.
Use Migrate Mate to find green card sponsoring employers
Search Migrate Mate by job title to surface fire protection engineering roles at employers with documented PERM and I-140 filing history, so you're not cold-applying to companies that have never sponsored a green card.
Confirm prevailing wage level before your employer files the LCA
DOL assigns prevailing wage Levels I through IV based on experience and supervision. A wage level mismatch between the LCA and your actual offer can trigger an audit or denial during PERM, so review the OFLC Wage Search figures with your employer before filing.

Find Fire Protection Engineer JobsFire Protection Engineer Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does fire protection engineering qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Fire protection engineering qualifies for both EB-2 and EB-3 depending on the specific job requirements your employer documents in the PERM application. EB-2 applies when the role genuinely requires a master's degree or equivalent advanced credentials. EB-3 applies to roles requiring a bachelor's degree in fire protection engineering or a closely related field. Your employer's attorney drafts the job description, so the requirements must honestly reflect what the position needs.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for fire protection engineers?
Green card sponsorship through PERM leads to permanent residency rather than temporary status, and EB-3 has no annual lottery or cap concerns for most countries. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM, I-140, and adjustment of status together take two to four years or longer for applicants from India or China due to priority date backlogs. H-1B grants faster work authorization but requires renewal and offers no path to permanence on its own.
What does the PERM process look like for a fire protection engineer role?
Your employer starts by obtaining a prevailing wage determination from DOL, then conducts a recruitment campaign to confirm no qualified U.S. worker is available. DOL reviews the PERM application, which currently takes several months to over a year depending on whether it gets audited. Once certified, your employer files an I-140 petition with USCIS. You file for adjustment of status or an immigrant visa when your priority date becomes current.
Which employers typically sponsor green cards for fire protection engineers?
Engineering consulting firms, fire suppression contractors, federal agencies, and large industrial facilities are the most common PERM sponsors for fire protection engineers. Roles tied to ongoing facility operations or code compliance tend to attract sponsoring employers because the specialization is hard to fill domestically. Use Migrate Mate to filter for fire protection engineering roles at employers with verified green card filing history instead of applying broadly.
Can a fire protection engineer on an H-1B switch to a green card without leaving the U.S.?
Yes. If you're already in H-1B status, your employer can start the PERM process while you're working. Once the I-140 is approved and your priority date is current, you file Form I-485 for adjustment of status without leaving the country. USCIS allows you to remain in H-1B status and continue working while adjustment is pending, as long as your H-1B remains valid or you qualify for H-1B extensions under AC21 portability rules.
