Green Card Tool Engineer Jobs
Tool Engineer jobs with green card sponsorship are filed under EB-2 or EB-3 depending on your degree and the role's requirements. Most employers sponsor through PERM labor certification, documenting that no qualified U.S. worker is available before filing an I-140 petition with USCIS to begin your path to lawful permanent residency.

Match your credentials to the right EB category
EB-3 covers Tool Engineers with a bachelor's degree; EB-2 applies if the role requires an advanced degree or you have a National Interest Waiver. Confirm which category your target employers are filing under before applying.
Verify your degree equivalency before PERM starts
USCIS evaluates foreign engineering degrees against U.S. standards during I-140 adjudication. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member service early so your employer's attorney can reference it in the PERM job description.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Search DOL's OFLC disclosure data to identify manufacturers and engineering firms that have filed PERM applications for Tool Engineer or related production-engineering roles in the past two years. That history signals a functioning sponsorship pipeline.
Find green-card-sponsoring Tool Engineer roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Tool Engineer openings by green card sponsorship eligibility, so you're not sifting through listings from employers who've never filed PERM. Search by role and location to surface companies with a demonstrated sponsorship track record.
Confirm the offered wage meets DOL prevailing wage
Before accepting an offer, look up the prevailing wage for Tool Engineer in your target metro using the OFLC Wage Search. PERM requires employers to pay at or above that level, and a gap can delay or derail the labor certification.
Negotiate a green card clause into your offer letter
Ask for written confirmation that the employer will initiate PERM within a defined timeframe, typically six to twelve months after your start date. Without this, sponsorship timelines are informal and easy for employers to defer indefinitely.
Green Card Tool Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Tool Engineer role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Tool Engineer positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers requiring a bachelor's degree in mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering. EB-2 applies when the employer's job description specifically requires an advanced degree or when the candidate self-petitions under a National Interest Waiver based on the role's contribution to U.S. manufacturing capability. The category determines priority date timelines, which vary significantly by country of birth.
How does the PERM green card process differ from H-1B sponsorship for Tool Engineers?
H-1B visa is a temporary nonimmigrant visa subject to an annual lottery and a six-year cap. PERM-based green card sponsorship has no annual cap at the petition level and leads to permanent residency. The trade-off is time: PERM labor certification alone takes six to twelve months, followed by I-140 adjudication and the visa queue. For Tool Engineers from most countries outside India and China, EB-3 priority dates are current, meaning the wait is manageable.
What does the PERM labor certification require from my employer?
The employer must run a mandatory recruitment campaign, typically including print and online job postings, to show no minimally qualified U.S. worker is available. The job requirements in the PERM application must match the actual role you'll perform. DOL audits a percentage of PERM filings, so accurate documentation matters. You have no direct role in the PERM filing itself, but make sure your employer's attorney has your full credential and experience records before filing.
How do I find Tool Engineer jobs where the employer is already set up to sponsor green cards?
Migrate Mate lets you search Tool Engineer openings specifically filtered by green card sponsorship eligibility, surfacing employers who have an established PERM filing track record. This saves significant time compared to applying broadly and discovering late in the process that a company has never sponsored a foreign worker before.
Can I change employers after my PERM is filed but before I get my green card?
Yes, under AC21 portability provisions, you can change to a same or similar occupation once your I-140 is approved and your I-485 adjustment of status has been pending for 180 days or more. Tool Engineer roles are classified under SOC codes tied to industrial and mechanical engineering functions, so a lateral move to a comparable production or tooling role at a new employer can qualify. Confirm the SOC code match with an immigration attorney before switching.
