Civil Project Engineer Green Card Jobs
Civil Project Engineer roles at infrastructure firms, construction companies, and government contractors regularly qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM labor certification. Employers document that no qualified U.S. worker is available before filing your I-140 petition, making your engineering credentials and project documentation central to a successful sponsorship case.

Gather project documentation before applying
Compile stamped drawings, permit approvals, and project closeout reports that prove your engineering contributions. PERM audits frequently target civil roles, so detailed project records strengthen your employer's labor certification filing from the start.
Target firms with active PERM filing history
Infrastructure contractors, transportation agencies, and municipal engineering consultancies file PERM applications for civil engineers far more consistently than general construction firms. Prioritize employers whose project pipelines span multiple years, since sponsorship requires sustained employment through I-140 approval.
Verify your role qualifies under EB-2 or EB-3
Review the O*NET occupation profile for Civil Engineers to confirm your duties match the specialty occupation definition. EB-2 applies if the position requires an advanced degree; EB-3 covers bachelor's-level roles, which covers most project engineer titles.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Search Migrate Mate to identify civil engineering employers with verified green card sponsorship history. Filtering by role and location shows which firms have filed PERM applications for project engineer positions, saving you from cold outreach to employers who won't sponsor.
Negotiate PERM filing timing into your offer
Ask employers directly when they typically initiate PERM after a hire. PERM recruitment and DOL processing alone can take six to twelve months before your I-140 is filed, so starting the conversation at the offer stage protects your timeline.
Check your prevailing wage tier before accepting an offer
Look up your specific job title and work location using OFLC Wage Search before signing any offer letter. PERM requires your offered salary to meet the DOL prevailing wage, and wage level mismatches are among the most common reasons labor certifications get denied or audited.

Find Civil Project Engineer JobsCivil Project Engineer Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Civil Project Engineer role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Civil Project Engineer positions typically qualify under EB-3 when the role requires a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering. If the position requires a master's degree or the candidate holds an advanced degree that the employer treats as a minimum requirement, EB-2 may apply. Your employer's attorney will determine the correct category based on the actual job requirements documented in the PERM application.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for civil engineers?
Green card sponsorship through PERM leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary work authorization that expires. Unlike the H-1B, EB-3 green card petitions are not subject to an annual lottery, though country-of-birth backlogs affect nationals from India and China. The process takes longer, often two to four years from PERM filing to adjustment of status approval, but the outcome is lawful permanent residence rather than a status you must continuously renew.
What documentation does my employer need for the PERM labor certification?
Your employer must run a formal DOL-supervised recruitment campaign showing no qualified U.S. worker is available for the civil engineer role. This includes newspaper ads, job postings, internal posting notices, and a summary of all applicants reviewed. Civil roles with licensed PE requirements or specialized project management credentials can help narrow the candidate pool, but your employer bears the burden of documentation throughout.
How can I find civil engineering employers who sponsor green cards?
Migrate Mate lets you search for Civil Project Engineer roles filtered by employers with verified PERM and green card sponsorship history. This removes the guesswork of identifying which firms are willing to sponsor, since many infrastructure and transportation contractors do sponsor but don't advertise it prominently in job postings.
Can I change employers after my PERM is filed but before my green card is approved?
Changing employers resets the process unless your I-140 has been approved for at least 180 days, at which point AC21 portability may allow you to transfer your priority date to a new employer in a similar role. For civil engineers, the role at the new employer must be in the same or a similar occupational classification. Consult an immigration attorney before accepting any new offer during an active green card case.
