Other Information
The University of Missouri School of Medicine is entering a period of strategic growth and innovation, highlighted by the UM Board of Curators’ approval to expand the Springfield clinical campus into a full four-year medical program. This expansion will increase total enrollment across Columbia and Springfield to more than 670 medical students and strengthen the university’s commitment to addressing Missouri’s physician shortage, particularly in rural regions. Beginning in 2027, first-year students will be welcomed to the Springfield campus, with fully identical curricula delivered across both sites through shared faculty, expanded simulation resources, and bi-directional livestreamed instruction. This milestone underscores the university’s broader mission to enhance statewide access to high-quality medical education and clinical care.
Complementing this statewide investment, the School of Medicine’s MOmentum curriculum redesign is transforming how future physicians are trained. MOmentum builds on MU’s long-standing learner-centered approach by integrating cutting-edge technology, innovative teaching strategies, and comprehensive support systems to create a dynamic and effective learning environment. The redesigned curriculum emphasizes evidence-based education, active learning, individualized support, early clinical exposure, and the development of lifelong, self-directed learners prepared to navigate an increasingly complex health care landscape. Through MOmentum, the School of Medicine is charting a bold path forward, ensuring students graduate with the advanced skills, adaptability, and patient-centered mindset needed to excel in modern medicine.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Learning Specialist
Match your degree to the role
PERM requires your degree field to align with the specific Learning Specialist duties in the job description. A degree in instructional design, education, or organizational development carries more weight than a generalist credential when USCIS reviews the I-140.
Target employers with PERM filing history
Large corporate learning and development teams, universities, healthcare systems, and government contractors file PERM more often than small training consultancies. Prioritize employers who have sponsored foreign professionals in education or training roles before, not just technical occupations.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Filter by employers with green card filing history in learning and development on Migrate Mate. This narrows your search to organizations already familiar with PERM timelines and willing to absorb the legal and recruitment costs of sponsorship.
Request OFLC Wage Search data before negotiating
DOL sets the prevailing wage for your specific Learning Specialist job duties, location, and experience level. Pull the OFLC Wage Search wage tier for your target city before accepting an offer so you can confirm the employer's proposed salary meets the PERM requirement.
Negotiate sponsorship commitment before starting
Get written confirmation that your employer will initiate PERM within a defined timeframe, typically tied to your first performance review or a set number of months after hire. Verbal promises don't bind the employer once you're onboarded and dependent on their sponsorship.
Understand the EB-2 versus EB-3 path for your credentials
If your Learning Specialist role requires only a bachelor's degree, EB-3 is the standard path. Candidates with a master's in instructional design or a related field may qualify for EB-2, which can mean shorter priority date waits depending on your country of birth.
Green Card Learning Specialist: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Learning Specialist role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most Learning Specialist positions qualify under EB-3 when the role requires a bachelor's degree in education, instructional design, or a related field. If the employer can demonstrate the position requires an advanced degree, and your credentials meet that bar, EB-2 may apply. Your employer's immigration counsel will determine the correct classification based on the actual job duties and your qualifications.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for a Learning Specialist?
An H-1B visa gives you temporary status in two- to three-year increments and is subject to the annual lottery. Green card sponsorship through PERM, I-140, and adjustment of status is permanent, has no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most countries, and does not require lottery selection. The tradeoff is timeline: the PERM process alone takes six to twelve months before the I-140 is even filed.
What does PERM labor certification require from my employer for this role?
Your employer must conduct a DOL-prescribed recruitment process showing no qualified U.S. workers are available for the Learning Specialist position. This typically includes job postings, newspaper advertisements, and internal notices held for a set period. The employer files the ETA 9089 application with DOL after completing recruitment, and the entire process must be completed before the I-140 can be submitted to USCIS.
How can I find Learning Specialist jobs with green card sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to filter job listings by employers who have a documented history of sponsoring green cards in education, training, and learning development roles. This approach is more efficient than sorting through general job boards where sponsorship willingness is rarely disclosed upfront. Focus your outreach on corporate L&D teams, healthcare training departments, and large higher-education institutions, which file PERM more consistently.
Can O*NET help me understand what credentials strengthen my PERM case?
O*NET classifies Learning Specialist and related instructional roles by typical education level, skills, and tasks. Reviewing the O*NET occupation profile helps you identify the degree fields and competencies DOL and USCIS expect to see reflected in your job description, your resume, and ultimately your I-140 petition. Aligning your credential documentation to O*NET's framework can reduce the risk of a Request for Evidence.
