ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will be in support of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences’ Consortium for Defense Psychology (CDP), which is based in Bethesda, MD. The Military Mental Health Social Worker will assist with activities related to CDP’s mission, which is to lead the development of a community of military culturally mindful and clinically competent providers through the delivery of high-quality training and education, the convening of experts, and the dissemination of research-based treatment and the latest topics in military mental health.
The Henry M. Jackson Foundation provides administrative and management support to the Consortium. CDP strives to be the central hub for the Military Health System (MHS) in the development and implementation of training and education to clinicians in order to ensure that all service members, veterans, and their families receive quality mental healthcare that meets their unique needs.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Mental Health Technician
Verify your credentials match PERM requirements
PERM requires your employer to document that you meet the minimum qualifications listed in the job posting. Get your foreign transcripts evaluated by a NACES-accredited agency before any application, so credential gaps don't stall the labor certification.
Target behavioral health systems with PERM history
Large psychiatric hospital networks and community mental health centers file PERM applications far more often than small private practices. Search DOL disclosure data to identify which employers in your target state have active labor certification filings for mental health support roles.
Use Migrate Mate to filter green card sponsoring employers
Searching broadly across job boards wastes time on employers with no green card history. Migrate Mate surfaces Mental Health Technician roles at employers with documented PERM and I-140 activity, so your applications go where sponsorship is realistic.
Distinguish EB-3 sponsorship from H-1B during interviews
Many hiring managers conflate all visa sponsorship. Clarify that EB-3 PERM sponsorship costs the employer time and legal fees but carries no lottery risk and no cap pressure, which matters for facilities planning multi-year staffing.
Get your prevailing wage tier confirmed before accepting an offer
PERM requires your offered wage to meet or exceed the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the Level I and Level II rates for your county before negotiating your offer letter.
Confirm your employer will file concurrently with I-485
If your priority date becomes current during PERM processing, concurrent filing of I-140 and I-485 lets you adjust status without leaving the U.S. Ask your prospective employer whether their immigration counsel handles adjustment of status filings, not just the I-140.
Green Card Mental Health Technician: Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Mental Health Technician role qualify for an EB-3 green card?
Yes. Mental Health Technician positions typically qualify under the EB-3 skilled worker category, which covers roles requiring at least two years of training or experience. Your employer sponsors you through PERM labor certification, then files an I-140 immigrant petition. Once your priority date is current, you can file for adjustment of status or apply for an immigrant visa at a U.S. consulate.
How is EB-3 green card sponsorship different from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B visa requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation and subjects you to the annual lottery, which rejects the majority of registrations. EB-3 through PERM has no lottery and no annual cap at the petition level. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification alone takes six to eighteen months before an I-140 is even filed, making it a longer but more predictable path to permanent residence.
What does an employer have to prove during PERM labor certification for this role?
The employer must demonstrate through a supervised recruitment process that no qualified, available U.S. worker applied for the position. DOL requires specific advertising steps including job postings, newspaper ads, and internal notices. If the audit file is complete and no qualified U.S. applicant was identified, DOL certifies the application and the employer can proceed to the I-140 petition.
Where can I find Mental Health Technician jobs that offer green card sponsorship?
Most general job boards don't filter by green card sponsorship history, so you end up applying to employers who have never filed a PERM application. Migrate Mate aggregates roles from employers with documented employment-based sponsorship activity, letting you focus your search on facilities that have actually navigated the PERM and I-140 process before.
Does my country of birth affect how long my EB-3 green card process takes?
Yes, significantly. Nationals born in India and China face priority date backlogs in EB-3 that can extend the wait by years beyond the standard PERM processing window. Nationals from most other countries currently face little to no backlog at the EB-3 level. You can track the current priority dates for your birth country in the USCIS Visa Bulletin, which is updated monthly.
