Green Card Obstetrician Jobs
Obstetrician roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which requires employers to document recruitment efforts before filing an I-140 petition. U.S. hospital systems and academic medical centers routinely sponsor foreign-trained OB physicians for permanent residency, making this one of the more accessible physician pathways to a green card.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship in Obstetrician
Verify your medical credentials before applying
USCIS requires foreign-trained physicians to hold a valid ECFMG certificate and a full, unrestricted state medical license. Confirm these are current and match the exact jurisdiction where the sponsoring employer operates before any PERM filing begins.
Target health shortage areas for faster sponsorship
Hospitals in Health Professional Shortage Areas often have stronger PERM justifications and fewer recruitment advertising hurdles. OB roles in rural systems and federally qualified health centers frequently move through the prevailing-wage determination and labor certification stages with less friction.
Search for employers using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Obstetrician roles by employers with active green card sponsorship history. Focusing on institutions that have filed PERM applications for physicians before cuts your timeline research down significantly.
Confirm the prevailing wage tier in your offer letter
DOL assigns prevailing wages at four levels for PERM filings. Ask HR which wage level your offer reflects and verify it against the OFLC Wage Search tool for your metro area, since a Level I or II classification can trigger a DOL audit on the labor certification.
Negotiate PERM filing timelines into your contract
Some hospital systems delay PERM filing until after a lengthy probationary period. Build a specific filing-start date into your employment contract so your employer begins the recruitment advertising and prevailing-wage determination within your first year of employment.
Understand EB-2 versus EB-3 placement for your case
Obstetricians with a U.S. board certification or a subspecialty fellowship typically qualify for EB-2, which can shorten wait times for nationals of oversubscribed countries. Ask your employer's immigration counsel to evaluate both categories before PERM is filed.
Green Card Obstetrician: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Obstetrician role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Obstetricians qualify for both EB-2 and EB-3 depending on the position requirements your employer defines in the PERM filing. EB-2 applies when the role requires an advanced degree beyond the basic M.D., such as a fellowship-level subspecialty. EB-3 covers standard OB physician roles requiring a professional degree. Your employer's legal counsel determines the category before the labor certification is filed with DOL.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for Obstetricians?
H-1B visa is a temporary work visa with a six-year cap that requires annual renewal and is subject to lottery selection for most cap-subject employers. EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM leads to permanent residency with no annual cap lottery. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification and I-140 adjudication typically take 18 to 36 months before an immigrant visa becomes available, depending on your country of birth.
How can I find hospitals that sponsor Obstetricians for green cards?
Use Migrate Mate to search for Obstetrician roles filtered by employers with documented green card sponsorship history. Not all hospital systems advertise PERM willingness in job postings, so filtering by actual sponsorship activity rather than job title alone saves significant outreach time and focuses your search on institutions already experienced with the PERM and I-140 process.
What documents does a foreign-trained Obstetrician need for PERM filing?
Your employer drives the PERM filing, but you'll need to supply a valid ECFMG certificate, copies of your medical degree and residency completion documentation, your unrestricted state medical license for the state where you'll practice, and any J-1 visa waiver approval if you completed a J-1 residency. DOL requires the employer to match your actual qualifications against the job requirements defined in the PERM application.
Can an Obstetrician on a J-1 waiver pursue green card sponsorship?
Yes, but the J-1 waiver service obligation period must be completed before or run concurrently with PERM filing in most cases. Conrad 30 waivers and Appalachian Regional Commission waivers both allow employment in underserved areas, and many of those sponsoring facilities are willing to initiate PERM during your service period. Confirm with the sponsoring employer whether their immigration policy permits concurrent J-1 service and PERM processing.
