Frame your credentials around PERM job requirements
PERM requires your degree and experience to match the employer's minimum requirements exactly. If your background blends industrial engineering with lean manufacturing certifications, document each qualification separately so it aligns with the job description the employer files with DOL.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Operations Excellence Manager roles by employers who have filed PERM applications before. Past filings signal that a company understands the process and has internal HR infrastructure to sponsor again without treating your case as a first-time experiment.
Ask employers about EB-2 versus EB-3 classification early
Some Operations Excellence Manager roles qualify for EB-2 if the employer genuinely requires a master's degree or its equivalent. Confirming the intended classification before the offer stage avoids surprises, since EB-2 and EB-3 have different priority date backlogs depending on your country of birth.
Verify prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
PERM requires the employer to pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your role and work location. Look up the applicable wage level using the OFLC Wage Search before salary discussions so you know whether the offer satisfies the legal minimum PERM requires.
Understand that PERM restarts if you change employers
Unlike H-1B visa portability under AC21, a PERM labor certification is tied to a specific employer and job. If you switch companies before your I-140 is approved, the new employer must file a new PERM from scratch, resetting your priority date and timeline.
Check your O*NET job zone before the employer posts the role
Operations Excellence Manager maps to a high job zone on O*NET, which supports specialty occupation and advanced-degree arguments USCIS reviews during I-140 adjudication. Sharing this data with your employer's immigration counsel strengthens the EB-2 petition if the role is being classified above skilled-worker level.
Green Card Operations Excellence Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Operations Excellence Manager role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Both classifications are possible depending on how the employer defines the minimum requirements. EB-3 covers roles requiring a bachelor's degree and at least two years of experience. EB-2 applies when the employer genuinely requires a master's degree or the equivalent combination of education and progressive experience. The employer's PERM job description, not the candidate's actual credentials, determines which category applies.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
H-1B is a temporary work visa subject to an annual lottery cap and must be renewed every three years. PERM-based green card sponsorship has no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most countries, and approval leads to permanent residency rather than a fixed work authorization period. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM and I-140 together typically take one to three years before you can file for adjustment of status.
What does the PERM labor certification process require from the employer?
The employer must conduct a supervised recruitment campaign to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available for the specific role at the offered wage. DOL reviews the recruitment records and, if satisfied, certifies the application. The employer then files the I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS using the certified PERM. You cannot self-petition under EB-2 PERM or EB-3 since both require a sponsoring employer.
How do I find Operations Excellence Manager jobs with green card sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Operations Excellence Manager roles where employers have active or historical PERM filings. Most general job boards don't surface sponsorship history, so you can spend months applying to companies that have never sponsored a foreign worker. Targeting employers with a documented PERM track record significantly shortens the search.
Can I switch employers after my PERM is approved but before my green card is issued?
Once your I-140 is approved and your priority date becomes current, AC21 portability allows you to change to a same or similar occupation without losing your place in the green card queue, provided your I-485 adjustment of status application has been pending for at least 180 days. Before I-140 approval, changing employers requires the new company to restart PERM from the beginning.
