Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as an Oracle Database Developer
Document your Oracle specializations before applying
Gather certifications, employer letters, and project summaries that confirm hands-on Oracle Database work, including PL/SQL, RAC, or Data Guard. PERM requires proving your role is specialized enough to justify sponsorship over available U.S. workers.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Use the OFLC Wage Search to identify companies that have filed PERM applications for database developer roles. Employers with recent filings already understand the process and are far less likely to abandon a sponsorship midway through.
Verify your role meets EB-2 or EB-3 wage levels
The OFLC Wage Search maps Oracle Database Developer roles to a Standard Occupational Classification code and assigns a prevailing wage tier. Your offered salary must meet that tier, which directly determines whether your sponsorship qualifies for EB-2 or EB-3.
Ask about PERM timing during the offer stage
PERM labor certification typically takes 12 to 18 months before your I-140 petition can even be filed. Raise this timeline with hiring managers before signing an offer so both sides have aligned expectations on the full green card process.
Search green card sponsoring employers through Migrate Mate
Filter Oracle Database Developer openings by verified PERM sponsorship history using Migrate Mate. This surfaces employers whose past filings match your occupation code, cutting the research time between job search and a credible sponsorship conversation.
Check O*NET to confirm your job description aligns with specialty occupation requirements
USCIS evaluates whether your role genuinely requires a specialized degree. Cross-referencing your job duties against the O*NET profile for database developers strengthens the employer's PERM filing and reduces the risk of a Request for Evidence.
Green Card Oracle Database Developer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Oracle Database Developer role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Oracle Database Developer positions qualify for EB-3 professional sponsorship, which requires a bachelor's degree or its equivalent in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Roles involving complex architecture, system design, or enterprise database strategy can qualify for EB-2 if the position genuinely requires an advanced degree or the candidate holds one and has a supporting employer petition.
How does the PERM green card process differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B visa is a temporary nonimmigrant status capped at 85,000 slots annually, requiring lottery selection. PERM-based green card sponsorship has no annual lottery and leads to permanent residency. The tradeoff is time: PERM labor certification, the I-140 petition, and priority date progression for EB-3 from some countries can take several years, while H-1B approval can arrive in weeks.
What documentation does an employer need to sponsor an Oracle Database Developer through PERM?
The employer must conduct a DOL-supervised recruitment process, advertise the role at the prevailing wage, and document that no qualified U.S. worker was available. They'll need a detailed job description matching your Oracle specializations, evidence of your qualifications, and a prevailing wage determination from the OFLC Wage Search before filing the ETA Form 9089 with DOL.
How can I find employers who have sponsored Oracle Database Developer green cards before?
Migrate Mate lets you filter Oracle Database Developer roles by verified PERM filing history, so you can focus on employers who have already navigated the DOL and USCIS process for this occupation. Targeting companies with prior successful filings in your SOC code significantly improves the likelihood your sponsorship will be completed rather than abandoned.
Can I stay employed while my PERM green card application is in progress?
Yes. You can continue working on a valid H-1B or other work-authorized status throughout the PERM and I-140 stages. Under AC21 portability, once your I-140 is approved and your priority date has been pending for 180 days or more, you gain flexibility to change employers in the same or similar occupational classification without losing your place in the priority date queue.
