Software Development Manager Green Card Jobs
Software Development Manager roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM labor certification, which requires employers to document the hiring process before filing your I-140 petition. Managers overseeing engineering teams typically satisfy the advanced-degree requirement for EB-2, shortening your path to permanent residency.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Software Development Manager
Document your management credentials now
Gather performance reviews, org charts, and project delivery records showing you directly supervised engineers. PERM audits frequently target Software Development Manager roles, so having contemporaneous proof of team leadership and technical oversight saves weeks during the process.
Target employers already running PERM cases
Companies with active PERM filings for software roles have proven internal processes and immigration counsel in place. Filtering by employers with a consistent history of sponsored software management hires narrows your list to realistic sponsorship candidates before your first conversation.
Clarify the EB-2 versus EB-3 classification early
If your role requires a master's degree or equivalent, push for EB-2 classification, which skips the prevailing-wage Tier 2 level and often moves faster for Rest-of-World nationals. Ask the employer's immigration attorney how they intend to classify the position before the PERM job description is drafted.
Verify the prevailing wage before accepting an offer
Your employer must pay the DOL-certified prevailing wage for your location and role level throughout the green card process. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level III or Level IV wage for Software Development Managers in your metro area so your offer aligns before PERM is filed.
Search green card sponsoring roles on Migrate Mate
Filter Software Development Manager openings by EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship on Migrate Mate to reach employers already committed to permanent residency sponsorship, not just H-1B transfers. This cuts the negotiation stage where most candidates lose ground.
Negotiate a portability clause into your offer letter
Under AC21 portability, you can change to a same-or-similar employer once your I-485 has been pending for 180 days. Getting a written acknowledgment of this right in your employment agreement protects you if the company is acquired or restructures while your green card is in progress.

Find Software Development Manager JobsSoftware Development Manager Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Software Development Manager role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most Software Development Manager positions qualify for EB-2 because employers typically require a master's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. If the employer drafts the job description to require only a bachelor's degree plus experience, the role defaults to EB-3. Which category applies depends on how the employer documents the minimum requirements during PERM labor certification, not on your personal credentials.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B sponsorship is temporary, capped at 85,000 annually, and subject to a lottery that resets each fiscal year. Green card sponsorship through PERM and I-140 has no annual lottery and leads to permanent residency. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM preparation and DOL processing typically add one to two years before USCIS even adjudicates the I-140, making earlier employer conversations more valuable for Software Development Managers.
What does the PERM labor certification process require from my employer?
Your employer must conduct a supervised recruitment campaign showing no qualified U.S. workers are available for the role at the offered wage. For Software Development Manager positions, this typically includes job postings, newspaper ads, and internal notices. DOL reviews the recruitment results and certifies the application before your employer can file the I-140 petition with USCIS. Audit requests are common for management-level technology roles.
How can I find Software Development Manager jobs with green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you filter Software Development Manager openings specifically by EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship availability, so you can focus on employers already committed to permanent residency sponsorship rather than cold-applying and negotiating from scratch. Targeting employers with a demonstrated PERM filing history in software management roles is the most direct path.
Can I switch employers while my Software Development Manager green card is in progress?
Yes, once your I-485 adjustment of status application has been pending for at least 180 days and your I-140 is approved, AC21 portability lets you move to a new employer in a same-or-similar occupation without restarting the process. Software Development Manager roles generally satisfy the same-or-similar standard for other senior engineering management positions, but confirm the match with USCIS guidance and your new employer's immigration counsel before resigning.
