Green Card Tax Consultant Jobs
Tax Consultant roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which requires employers to document recruitment efforts before filing your I-140 petition. Accounting firms, corporate tax departments, and Big Four practices have active PERM filing histories, making sponsorship a realistic outcome for credentialed foreign professionals.

Credential your foreign accounting degree first
PERM requires your degree to meet the minimum requirements for the role as advertised. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization before applying, so employers can confirm your foreign accounting qualification satisfies the posted job requirements.
Target employers with active PERM filing histories
Corporate tax departments at publicly traded companies and Big Four practices file PERM applications far more consistently than boutique CPA firms. Use the OFLC Wage Search to identify employers who have recently certified Tax Consultant or Tax Analyst positions.
Search green card sponsoring roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Tax Consultant jobs specifically by EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to firms that have never filed a PERM. Run a targeted search by role and industry to surface employers with documented sponsorship activity.
Negotiate sponsorship terms before your offer letter
Ask explicitly whether the employer will cover attorney fees and PERM recruitment costs before you sign. Some firms sponsor the I-140 but require you to pay filing fees or legal costs, which can reach thousands of dollars over a multi-year process.
Understand how CPA licensure affects your PERM job description
If your employer lists CPA as a requirement in the PERM job posting, USCIS will expect your I-140 to reflect that credential. Unlicensed candidates should confirm with the sponsoring employer that the posted requirements match what you actually hold.
Track your priority date against the Visa Bulletin
EB-3 applicants from high-demand countries can face multi-year backlogs between I-140 approval and adjustment of status eligibility. USCIS publishes a monthly Visa Bulletin showing priority date movement, which directly determines when you can file your I-485.
Green Card Tax Consultant: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Tax Consultant jobs typically qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Tax Consultant roles most commonly qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers requiring a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. EB-2 sponsorship is available when the role genuinely requires an advanced degree, such as a master's in taxation or an LLM in tax law, and the employer can document that requirement throughout the PERM process.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for Tax Consultants?
H-1B visa sponsorship is temporary, capped at 85,000 annually with a lottery, and tied to a specific employer. Green card sponsorship through PERM has no annual cap at the petition stage and results in permanent residency. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification alone can take six to eighteen months before the I-140 is even filed, and priority date backlogs extend that further for some nationalities.
What does the PERM process actually require from my employer?
Your employer must conduct a structured recruitment campaign under DOL rules, documenting that no qualified U.S. workers applied for the role. This includes posting the job in specific venues for a defined period. If the recruitment yields no qualified U.S. applicants, the employer files the PERM application with DOL. You cannot initiate PERM yourself; the employer controls and files the entire application.
How can I find Tax Consultant jobs where the employer already sponsors green cards?
Migrate Mate lets you filter Tax Consultant job listings specifically by EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history, so you can identify employers who have completed PERM certifications for this role type before. This is more reliable than asking recruiters upfront, since many employers only clarify sponsorship willingness late in the hiring process.
Can I switch employers after my PERM is filed but before I get my green card?
Changing employers during an active PERM process generally restarts the process, since PERM is tied to a specific employer and job. Once your I-140 is approved and your priority date is current, portability rules under AC21 allow you to change to a similar role in the same occupational classification without losing your place in the queue, provided your I-485 has been pending for at least 180 days.
