Verify your degree meets EB-2 standards
EB-2 requires a U.S. master's degree or foreign equivalent, or a bachelor's plus five years of progressive experience. For Tax Senior Manager roles, a master's in taxation or accounting strengthens your case significantly over a general business degree.
Target firms with active PERM filing histories
Large public accounting firms and multinational corporations with dedicated tax departments file PERM applications routinely. Prioritize employers whose size and structure support multi-year immigration timelines, since PERM alone typically takes 12 to 18 months before I-140 filing.
Search open roles using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Tax Senior Manager positions by employers with documented green card sponsorship activity. This cuts job search time by surfacing roles at organizations already familiar with PERM requirements for tax professionals.
Confirm the offered role qualifies as specialty occupation
DOL requires the PERM position to normally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Review the O*NET occupation profile for tax managers to understand how DOL evaluates minimum educational requirements during the labor certification stage.
Get a prevailing wage determination before negotiating
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for the role and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up Level III or IV wages for tax managers in your metro area before accepting an offer, so compensation aligns with what PERM will require.
Document international tax experience for the I-140 petition
USCIS scrutinizes experience letters for EB-2 petitions closely. Gather employer letters that detail your specific duties in transfer pricing, international compliance, or ASC 740 work rather than generic job descriptions, since vague documentation is a common cause of RFEs.
Green Card Tax Senior Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Tax Senior Manager roles commonly qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most Tax Senior Manager positions qualify for EB-2 because they normally require a master's degree in accounting or taxation, or a bachelor's degree plus substantial progressive experience. EB-3 is available as an alternative when the employer's job requirements meet the skilled worker standard. The classification affects your priority date and, depending on your nationality, your wait time in the visa backlog.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for a Tax Senior Manager?
H-1B visa is a temporary status tied to a single employer and subject to annual lottery uncertainty. Green card sponsorship through PERM and I-140 leads to permanent residency with no recurring cap risk after approval. The trade-off is time: PERM recruitment and DOL review alone can take 12 to 18 months before USCIS even sees your I-140 petition, so starting early with an employer committed to permanent sponsorship matters.
What does the PERM labor certification process look like for this role?
Your employer must conduct a DOL-supervised recruitment campaign to demonstrate no qualified U.S. worker is available for the position. This includes placing job ads, reviewing applications, and documenting rejection reasons. The employer then files the PERM application with DOL. For tax roles, documentation of specialized requirements like CPA licensure or international tax experience helps justify why the position is specific rather than generic.
How can I find Tax Senior Manager jobs where the employer will sponsor a green card?
Use Migrate Mate to search specifically for Tax Senior Manager openings at employers with green card sponsorship history. Many tax roles attract candidates on H-1B, so sponsoring employers are used to the process, but not every listing makes that explicit. Filtering by sponsorship-active employers saves you from pursuing roles where the hiring manager has no familiarity with PERM timelines.
Can my CPA license or international tax credentials strengthen my green card petition?
CPA licensure is recognized by DOL as a specialized requirement that supports a stronger PERM job description, which makes the labor certification harder to challenge. For EB-2 petitions, USCIS looks favorably on credentials like advanced international tax certifications when evaluating whether the position genuinely requires an advanced-degree professional. Detailed experience letters from past employers documenting your specific technical work carry more weight than a license alone.
