If you take pride in quality repairs and want to work on a diverse fleet of newer cargo vans and box trucks across multiple brands, join the Avis Budget Group team supporting Budget Truck operations.

You will work on newer vehicles across multiple manufacturers, applying your diesel and medium-duty expertise to reduce downtime, improve reliability, and support a positive customer experience.
Perks You’ll Get:
- Bi-weekly hourly wage (New York and Puerto Rico: weekly wage)
- On-the-job training to expand your automotive and diesel repair skills, including support toward ASE certifications
- Paid time off
- Medical, dental and other insurance
- Flexible spending account opportunity to contribute up to $270 as a tax-free benefit for public transportation or parking expenses

Above perks may vary based on full-time/part-time status and location.
What We’re Looking For:
- Valid Driver’s License Class A, B, or C CDL may be required depending on location
- Minimum of 2 years of experience performing mechanical repairs and diagnostics on medium-duty or heavy-duty equipment
- At least 1 ASE certification, with the ability to obtain 2 additional ASE certifications within the first year
- Working knowledge across ASE areas including, but not limited to: Engine Repair, Drivetrain/Axles, Suspension/Steering, Brakes, Electrical, Heating/Air Conditioning, Engine Performance, and Light Vehicle/Diesel

- Must have a complete set of tools required for automotive and diesel repair
- Basic computer skills, including typing and data entry
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, continuously stand, bend, reach, walk, sit and kneel frequently, enter, exit and drive vehicles

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as an Automotive Technician
Verify your degree meets specialty occupation
USCIS requires the role to normally require a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Pull the O*NET profile for Automotive Technician to confirm the education and knowledge requirements you'll cite in your petition.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Automotive Technician openings by employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for this occupation code, so you're only applying where H-1B sponsorship is already established practice.
Check the prevailing wage before negotiating
Your offered salary must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your job location and experience level. Run the OFLC Wage Search using SOC code 49-3023 before you enter any salary discussion with a potential employer.
Confirm employer E-Verify enrollment upfront
Employers sponsoring H-1B workers must be enrolled in E-Verify. Ask the recruiter directly during the screening call. A company that isn't enrolled will need to register before USCIS will certify the petition, which adds time.
File for premium processing if your start date is tight
Standard H-1B adjudication can run three to six months. If your OPT or current status expires within that window, ask the employer to file Form I-907 for premium processing so USCIS adjudicates within 15 business days.
Gather ASE certifications before the petition stage
ASE credentials don't replace degree requirements for H-1B purposes, but they strengthen the specialty occupation argument and the employer's support letter. Compile your current certifications and any manufacturer-specific training records early in the process.
H-1B Visa Automotive Technician: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Automotive Technician role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. Standard repair technician roles are often classified as requiring vocational training rather than a bachelor's degree, which disqualifies them. Roles focused on advanced diagnostics, EV systems engineering, or technical program management that genuinely require a four-year degree in automotive technology or engineering are more likely to qualify. The employer's job description and internal hiring standards are the deciding factor USCIS evaluates.
Which types of employers sponsor H-1B visas for Automotive Technicians?
OEM technical centers, large dealership groups with dedicated engineering or diagnostics teams, fleet management companies, and automotive aftermarket manufacturers are the most common sponsors. These employers tend to hire for roles that sit above standard shop-floor technician work. You can browse verified sponsors by occupation on Migrate Mate, which surfaces employers based on actual LCA filing history rather than self-reported sponsorship policies.
How does the DOL prevailing wage apply to Automotive Technician H-1B petitions?
The employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for the role's SOC code and the geographic area where you'll work. For Automotive Technicians, that's SOC 49-3023. Wages vary significantly by metro area, so a position in a high-cost market will carry a higher floor than the same title in a rural location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to confirm the wage level before accepting an offer.
Can an Automotive Technician on OPT transition to H-1B with the same employer?
Yes, if the employer is willing to sponsor and the role meets specialty occupation requirements. Your employer files the H-1B petition before the April 1 cap-subject filing window. If selected in the lottery and approved, your H-1B status begins October 1. Cap-gap rules allow you to keep working on OPT between your OPT expiration and October 1 as long as the petition was timely filed.
What documentation strengthens an H-1B petition for an Automotive Technician?
The employer's support letter needs to explain specifically why the role requires a bachelor's degree in automotive technology, engineering, or a related field, not just industry experience. ASE certifications, manufacturer training records, and evidence of advanced diagnostic or systems responsibilities all reinforce the specialty occupation argument. Your degree equivalency evaluation from a NACES-member organization is also essential if your credential is from outside the U.S.
