Document your degree's direct relevance
Event marketing sits in a gray zone for H-1B specialty occupation. Pull your transcripts and map coursework in marketing strategy, brand communications, or consumer behavior directly to your job description before your employer files.
Check LCA filings by occupation code
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up SOC code 11-2021 (Marketing Managers) or 13-1161 (Meeting and Event Planners). This shows you which employers have filed labor condition applications for roles like yours, not just which ones say they sponsor.
Target agencies with in-house event teams
Experiential marketing agencies and integrated creative shops often have established immigration counsel and repeat H-1B filing experience. Roles embedded in a dedicated events practice are easier to classify as specialty occupation than generalist coordinator titles.
Search H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Filter for Event Marketing Specialist roles on Migrate Mate to see employers with verified H-1B filing history in your occupation. This saves you from applying to companies that list sponsorship as possible but have no record of actually filing.
Negotiate your start date around cap timing
H-1B cap-subject petitions have an October 1 start date. If you receive an offer after the April lottery, your employment can't begin until October. Confirm this with your employer during negotiation so onboarding timelines are set correctly from the start.

Find Event Marketing Specialist JobsEvent Marketing Specialist H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Event Marketing Specialist role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B?
It depends on how the position is defined. H-1B specialty occupation requires a bachelor's degree in a directly related field as a minimum entry requirement. Event marketing roles that involve strategic planning, brand positioning, or integrated campaign management are stronger candidates than coordinator-level titles where any degree is accepted. Your employer's job description and the degree requirement they state in the LCA carry significant weight in USCIS's review.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for event marketing roles?
Employers in experiential marketing agencies, Fortune 500 brand teams, tech companies with large event programs, and hospitality groups have filed LCAs for event marketing roles. You can verify actual filing history using the OFLC Wage Search or browse employers with confirmed H-1B sponsorship records on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for roles in your occupation category.
Can I switch from OPT to H-1B while working as an Event Marketing Specialist?
Yes. Your employer files an H-1B petition on your behalf during the April registration window. If selected in the lottery, your status transitions from OPT to H-1B on October 1. If your OPT expires before October 1 and you were selected, the cap-gap provision extends your work authorization automatically through September 30. USCIS provides official cap-gap guidance to confirm your eligibility dates.
What happens to my H-1B status if the event marketing role is restructured or eliminated?
If your position is eliminated, you have a 60-day grace period to find a new H-1B-sponsoring employer, change to another visa status, or depart the U.S. Your new employer must file an H-1B transfer petition before the grace period ends for your status to remain valid. Portability provisions under AC21 allow you to begin working for the new employer once the transfer petition is filed and receipted.
Does the prevailing wage for event marketing affect whether employers will sponsor?
Yes. The DOL-required prevailing wage is tied to the specific SOC code and geographic location listed on the LCA. If your role is classified under Meeting and Event Planners rather than a higher-level marketing manager code, the prevailing wage threshold will differ. Employers sometimes reconsider sponsorship when the required wage exceeds their internal band for the role, so it's worth confirming the SOC classification your employer plans to use before an offer is finalized.
