Verify your degree meets specialty occupation
USCIS requires that Hotel Operations Manager roles demand a specific bachelor's degree, not just any degree. A hospitality management, hotel administration, or business degree with hospitality coursework strengthens your petition against requests for evidence.
Target brands with multi-property management structures
Hotel management companies overseeing multiple properties file LCAs more consistently than single-location owners. Flag employers whose operations span branded full-service hotels, where the complexity of the role supports a specialty occupation argument.
Search verified H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Pull up Hotel Operations Manager roles on Migrate Mate to filter by employers with documented LCA filing history in this occupation. That filing history confirms the employer has previously classified the role as a specialty occupation with DOL.
Confirm prevailing wage level before accepting an offer
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for your exact job title, SOC code, and work location. Your offered wage must meet at least Level I before the employer can certify the LCA.
Ask about cap-exempt sponsorship pathways
Hotel management roles at universities, nonprofit hospitality programs, or government-affiliated lodging facilities may qualify as cap-exempt H-1B employers, letting you bypass the lottery entirely. Confirm the employer's tax status before the offer stage.
Account for LCA certification before your start date
Your employer must file the LCA with DOL and receive certification before submitting your H-1B petition to USCIS. DOL targets a seven-business-day turnaround, but build extra time into your negotiated start date to absorb any delays.
H-1B Visa Hotel Operations Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Hotel Operations Manager role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, but the employer must document that the position specifically requires a bachelor's degree in hospitality management, hotel administration, or a closely related field. Roles framed as general management without a field-specific degree requirement can draw USCIS scrutiny. Job descriptions that tie the degree directly to operational duties, revenue management, or multi-department oversight are stronger.
Which types of hotel employers are most likely to sponsor H-1B visas for operations roles?
Full-service branded hotels, large resort properties, and hotel management companies with multi-property portfolios sponsor H-1B petitions for operations managers more reliably than independent boutique hotels. Larger operators have established HR and legal infrastructure for immigration filings. You can find employers with verified H-1B filing histories for this role on Migrate Mate.
How does the H-1B lottery affect my timeline for a Hotel Operations Manager position?
Cap-subject H-1B petitions are filed in April for an October 1 start date, following a March registration window. If you're selected, your employer files the full petition after the lottery. If your role qualifies through a cap-exempt employer, the lottery doesn't apply and your petition can be filed at any time during the year.
What SOC code applies to Hotel Operations Manager roles for the LCA filing?
Most Hotel Operations Manager positions are filed under SOC code 11-9081, Lodging Managers, for Labor Condition Application purposes. The employer uses this code to pull the prevailing wage from the OFLC Wage Search before certifying the LCA with DOL. Confirm the SOC code with your employer before the offer is finalized, as misclassification can delay certification.
Can I stay in H-1B status if I switch hotel employers mid-approval process?
If you're already in H-1B status, you can use H-1B portability to start working for a new hotel employer as soon as the new petition is filed, without waiting for approval, provided your previous petition was approved and you haven't violated status. The new employer must file a transfer petition and a fresh LCA covering your new work location and wage level.
