H-1B Visa Insurance Assistant Jobs
Insurance Assistant roles at H-1B-sponsoring employers typically sit under SOC code 43-9041 (Insurance Claims and Policy Processing Clerks), a classification that supports specialty occupation arguments when paired with a relevant degree in business, finance, or risk management. Employers in this space file LCAs through DOL before petitioning USCIS, and cap-subject registrations enter the annual lottery each March.

Match your degree to the role
H-1B approval for Insurance Assistant positions hinges on demonstrating specialty occupation. A degree in business administration, finance, or risk management strengthens that argument far more than a general studies credential when USCIS reviews the petition.
Check prevailing wages before negotiating
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing rate for your area. Run the OFLC Wage Search for SOC code 43-9041 in your metro before salary discussions so you know the floor they're legally required to meet.
Target employers with active LCA filings
Use Migrate Mate to filter Insurance Assistant openings by verified DOL Labor Condition Application history, so you're applying to employers who have already navigated H-1B sponsorship for this role type, not just those who say they're open to it.
Flag licensing requirements early in interviews
Some Insurance Assistant roles require a state property, casualty, or life insurance license. Confirm with your employer whether obtaining that license on H-1B status affects your start date or creates a gap between offer and petition filing.
Request premium processing for time-sensitive starts
Standard I-129 adjudication can run several months. If your employment start date is firm, ask your employer to file with USCIS premium processing, which targets a 15 business-day decision and reduces the risk of a gap in authorized employment.

Find Insurance Assistant JobsInsurance Assistant H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Insurance Assistant role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
It can, but the employer must demonstrate the position normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. Insurance Assistant roles tied to underwriting support, claims analysis, or compliance work tend to qualify more readily when paired with a degree in business, finance, or risk management. Generalist administrative roles with no degree requirement are harder to approve.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Insurance Assistant jobs?
Large carriers, regional insurers, and third-party claims administrators are the most active H-1B filers for insurance-adjacent roles. Migrate Mate filters Insurance Assistant listings by verified DOL LCA filing history, so you can focus on employers who have already sponsored this role type rather than cold-applying and asking HR to figure it out.
How does the DOL prevailing wage apply to Insurance Assistant positions?
Before filing an H-1B petition with USCIS, your employer must file a Labor Condition Application certifying they'll pay you at least the prevailing wage for your role and location. For Insurance Assistant positions, that wage is determined by SOC code 43-9041. You can verify the applicable rate yourself using the OFLC Wage Search before or during salary negotiations.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new insurance employer mid-employment?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can begin working for a new sponsoring employer as soon as they file an I-129 transfer petition, as long as your prior H-1B was approved and you've maintained valid status. You don't need to wait for the new petition to be adjudicated, but your new employer must still file the LCA and petition through USCIS.
Does holding a state insurance license affect my H-1B petition?
A state license doesn't directly affect the USCIS petition, but it can affect your actual start date if the role requires it and you haven't obtained it yet. Some employers will sponsor the H-1B first and support license acquisition after approval. Clarify this sequence during the offer stage so there's no conflict between your authorized start date and licensing timelines.
