Verify your degree supports specialty occupation
USCIS requires Operations Coordinator roles to demonstrate a direct connection between the job duties and your specific degree field. A general business degree often works, but a mismatch between your major and the operational focus of the role can trigger an RFE.
Pull the O*NET profile before applying
O*NET lists the education and skill requirements USCIS references when evaluating specialty occupation status. Reviewing the Operations Coordinator profile lets you align your resume language with the criteria adjudicators actually use.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Operations Coordinator roles by employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for this occupation. Prior LCA activity signals an employer already understands the H-1B process and has a sponsorship infrastructure in place.
Confirm prevailing wage tier before negotiating
Look up the wage level for Operations Coordinator under your target employer's metro area using the OFLC Wage Search before any offer discussion. Your offered salary must meet at least the Level I prevailing wage, and most employers file at Level II or higher.
Ask directly about cap-exempt employer status
Universities, nonprofit research organizations, and certain government-affiliated entities are cap-exempt, meaning they can file your H-1B petition outside the annual lottery window. Operations roles at hospitals, universities, and research institutions are worth prioritizing for this reason.
Time your job search around the H-1B registration window
USCIS opens H-1B registration each March for an October 1 start date. Securing an offer by February gives your employer enough lead time to register you, prepare the I-129, and file by the April deadline if selected.

Find Operations Coordinator JobsOperations Coordinator H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Operations Coordinator role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the employer defines the role. USCIS scrutinizes Operations Coordinator petitions more closely than engineering or software roles because the title can encompass both degree-requiring and non-degree work. The petition is stronger when the job description specifies analytical, process-design, or systems-management duties that require a bachelor's degree in a directly related field like supply chain, business administration, or industrial engineering.
How do I find employers who sponsor H-1B visas for Operations Coordinator positions?
Migrate Mate filters Operations Coordinator jobs by employers with verified H-1B Labor Condition Application filing history, so you're not guessing which companies sponsor. Look for employers in logistics, healthcare systems, manufacturing, and enterprise tech, where operations functions are complex enough to consistently support specialty occupation arguments.
What happens to my H-1B status if I'm promoted from Operations Coordinator to Operations Manager?
A title change that comes with a material shift in duties, salary level, or reporting structure typically requires an amended H-1B petition before the change takes effect. Your employer files an amended I-129 with USCIS documenting the updated role. You can legally start the new position once the amendment is filed, not necessarily approved, under the portability rules introduced by AC21.
Can an Operations Coordinator role support an employer-sponsored green card?
Yes, but the path depends on how the role is classified. Most Operations Coordinator positions qualify under the EB-2 or EB-3 employment-based preference categories, which require the employer to complete PERM labor certification first. The PERM process tests the labor market to confirm no qualified U.S. workers are available for the role before DOL certifies the application.
What should I do if my employer receives an RFE on my H-1B petition for this role?
An RFE for an Operations Coordinator petition usually challenges specialty occupation status or the degree-to-job connection. Your employer's immigration attorney needs to respond with supporting evidence: a detailed job duties breakdown, your academic transcripts, any relevant industry certifications, and documentation showing the role requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Response quality matters significantly here.
