Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as an Operations Manager
Verify your role meets specialty occupation
Operations Manager titles vary widely. Pull the O*NET profile for your specific function and confirm the position requires a field-specific degree, not just any bachelor's. Generalist management roles with no degree-field requirement draw the most H-1B RFEs.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Search Migrate Mate to filter Operations Manager roles by employers with verified DOL Labor Condition Application filings. Employers already in the LCA system have cleared prevailing-wage certification before and are faster to sponsor new hires.
Check prevailing wage before salary negotiations
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level I through Level IV wage for your SOC code and metro area before accepting an offer. Your employer must pay at or above the prevailing wage on the LCA, so knowing the floor protects you in negotiations.
Prioritize cap-exempt employers during the lottery
Universities, nonprofit research organizations, and government entities are cap-exempt. An Operations Manager role at a university facilities department or a hospital affiliated with a medical school can bypass the April lottery entirely and file any time.
Document business process ownership in your petition
USCIS scrutinizes Operations Manager petitions for evidence of specialty occupation. Your employer's I-129 support letter should detail the degree fields required for your specific duties, not just list your title. Generic job descriptions are a leading cause of RFEs in this SOC category.
Use premium processing if your start date is tight
USCIS offers premium processing for I-129 petitions, which guarantees a 15-business-day adjudication decision. If you're transitioning from OPT or a cap-gap period, the faster timeline reduces the gap between your current authorization end date and H-1B approval.
H-1B Visa Operations Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Operations Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the position is defined. USCIS requires that the role normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field, not just any degree. An Operations Manager overseeing supply chain systems, industrial engineering, or healthcare operations with a field-specific degree requirement generally qualifies. Broad generalist roles without a defined degree field are more likely to receive an RFE.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Operations Manager positions?
Manufacturing companies, logistics and third-party logistics firms, healthcare systems, and large retailers sponsor Operations Manager roles most consistently. These industries have recurring needs for specialized operations talent and are familiar with the LCA and I-129 process. You can browse employers with verified H-1B filing history for this role on Migrate Mate.
What happens to my H-1B status if I get promoted from Operations Manager to a Director role?
A significant change in job duties, title, or work location requires your employer to file an amended I-129 petition with USCIS before the change takes effect. Moving from Operations Manager to Director typically involves a material change in duties and wage level, which triggers the amendment requirement. Your employer should file before the promotion date to keep your status current.
Can an Operations Manager role at a nonprofit bypass the H-1B cap?
Yes, if the employer qualifies as a cap-exempt institution. Nonprofits affiliated with universities or government research organizations are cap-exempt under the INA. An Operations Manager position at a qualifying institution can be filed with USCIS at any time of year without waiting for the April lottery, including mid-year transfers from a cap-subject employer.
How does a multi-site Operations Manager role affect the H-1B petition?
If your role requires you to work at multiple locations, your employer must include all worksites on the LCA and, in most cases, post the LCA notice at each location. USCIS and DOL both scrutinize multi-site petitions for compliance. Short-term placements at client sites under a year may follow different rules, so your employer should confirm the worksite structure with their immigration counsel before filing.
