Who we are
About Stripe
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world's largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career.
About The Team
The Product Design team defines and delivers user-facing experiences across Stripe. Product Designers work closely with engineers, product managers, researchers, strategists, operations, data scientists, and marketers to shape products from early strategy through launch and iteration. You'll join the Risk team, where design shapes how businesses get started on Stripe, stay compliant, and grow with confidence. Stripe's ability to innovate, expand globally, and serve the world's most ambitious companies depends on world-class risk management. But great risk management requires clear, trustworthy, and surprisingly well-crafted experiences during some of the most important moments in a user's relationship with Stripe. From onboarding and verification to account health, your work will help users understand what's happening, know what to do next, and feel confident that Stripe is growing with them as a trusted partner. Risk at Stripe is also evolving into a product pillar in its own right. As Stripe builds more modular, configurable, API-first risk capabilities, we have the opportunity to turn internal strength into external products for some of the largest and most innovative companies in the world to leverage. This role will shape that future.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This role sits at the intersection of building trust in the internet economy, platform design, and new product creation, making it one of the most strategically important design opportunities at Stripe. You'll lead design across critical Risk experiences, shaping the strategy for new products, defining AI-driven and agent-friendly workflows, and setting design standards for the team. It's a strong fit for a designer who is energized by ambiguity, motivated by impact, and excited to shape the future of how businesses get started and grow on Stripe.
- Shape the future of Risk at Stripe, from core user journeys to entirely new product surfaces
- Design experiences that help users onboard quickly, stay compliant, and manage risk with clarity and control
- Partner with product, engineering, policy, operations, and research to define both near-term improvements and longer-term opportunities
- Raise the craft bar in a domain where quality and trust matter deeply
- Work across dozens of teams to create beautiful patterns for risk and compliance experiences across Stripe
WHO YOU ARE
We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- 12+ years of experience designing products
- A strong portfolio demonstrating excellent craft, systems thinking, and end-to-end design, including a strong understanding of AI tools
- Experience leading complex product work in close partnership with product management and engineering
- Experience shaping ambiguous spaces and driving clarity through design
- A track record of influencing cross-functional teams and product direction
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Thrive in environments where the opportunity spans systems, strategy, and 0-1 product thinking
- Enjoy turning complex systems, policies, and edge cases into elegant product experiences
- Are energized by ambiguous, strategic problem spaces—not just well-defined execution
- Are an influential storyteller who can align partners around a clear point of view
- Can move fluidly between big-picture thinking and interaction-level craft
- Know how to build trust through design, especially in high-stakes or sensitive user moments
- Work well across disciplines and build credibility with technical, operational, and policy-oriented partners
Hybrid work at Stripe
This role is available either in an office or a remote location (35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office).
In-office expectations
Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.
Working remotely at Stripe
A remote location is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not cover the cost of relocating to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that match the location where you currently live or plan to live.
PAY AND BENEFITS
The annual US base salary range for this role is $191,300 - $286,900. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.
Additional benefits for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and wellness stipends.

Align your portfolio to specialty occupation criteria
USCIS scrutinizes whether Senior Staff Product Designer roles require a specific theoretical and practical application of a body of knowledge. Frame your portfolio around systems-level design decisions tied directly to your degree discipline, not general creative output.
Check employer LCA filings before applying
Use Migrate Mate to filter Senior Staff Product Designer openings by verified DOL Labor Condition Application history, so you're targeting employers who have actually filed for this role, not just listed it as visa-eligible in job descriptions.
Verify your wage level before the offer stage
Run the OFLC Wage Search using the SOC code for User Experience Designers in your target metro area. If an offer comes in below Level III or IV, your employer's LCA will reflect that discrepancy and may trigger USCIS scrutiny during adjudication.
Document cross-functional scope for your I-129
Staff-level design roles that span product, engineering, and research are sometimes challenged as insufficiently specialized. Build a role justification letter with your employer that maps each key responsibility to a specific design or HCI discipline before filing.
Time your application around premium processing windows
USCIS offers premium processing for H-1B petitions, currently adjudicated within 15 business days. For Senior Staff roles with negotiated start dates, confirm your employer will elect premium processing before signing an offer with a hard start deadline.
Identify cap-exempt employers for faster paths
Universities, nonprofit research organizations, and certain government-affiliated institutions are cap-exempt, meaning they can file your H-1B year-round without lottery selection. Senior Staff Product Designer roles exist at these organizations, particularly in health tech and edtech.
H-1B Visa Senior Staff Product Designer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Staff Product Designer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, in most cases. USCIS requires that the position normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as industrial design, human-computer interaction, or a closely related discipline. Staff-level roles with strategic scope and demonstrated degree requirements in job postings are well-positioned, but your employer's petition must clearly tie the role's duties to that specific body of knowledge.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Senior Staff Product Designer roles?
Large technology companies, enterprise software firms, fintech companies, and healthcare technology organizations are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for senior design roles. Browse open Senior Staff Product Designer positions on Migrate Mate, which surfaces employers with verified DOL LCA filing history so you can focus your search on companies that have actively sponsored this role.
How does the prevailing wage requirement affect Senior Staff Product Designer offers?
Your employer must certify through the DOL that your offered wage meets the prevailing wage for your occupation and work location. For Senior Staff roles, that typically corresponds to a Level III or Level IV wage under DOL's four-tier system. You can verify the applicable wage yourself using the OFLC Wage Search before accepting an offer, which helps you negotiate from an informed position.
Can I change employers while on H-1B status as a Senior Staff Product Designer?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer as soon as they file a new H-1B petition on your behalf, provided your current status is valid and your prior petition was approved. You don't need to wait for the new petition to be adjudicated, but your new employer must file before your current authorized period ends.
Does the O*NET classification for my role affect my H-1B petition?
It can. USCIS and DOL both reference O*NET occupational data when evaluating whether a role qualifies as a specialty occupation and what prevailing wage applies. The O*NET profile for User Experience Designers specifies a job zone and typical education level that supports H-1B eligibility for Senior Staff Product Designer roles, and citing it in your petition documentation can strengthen the specialty occupation argument.
