About the role
Wealthfront is looking for a Senior Staff Product Designer to drive design for our Cash product—our much loved high-yield savings and checking experience. Cash is the hub of Wealthfront’s financial ecosystem; clients love it for its instant money movement, joint account access, and the way it simplifies earning more with their cash. This role reports directly to a Design Director and is built for an experienced designer who is energized by simplifying complexity and crafting experiences as a zealous advocate for our clients. Wealthfront pioneered automated investing by offering broad access to sophisticated investing strategies at a fraction of the cost of traditional financial advisers. That formed the beginning of a much broader vision for how our products can serve our mission to build a financial system that favors people over institutions. Since then, we’ve continued to expand the ways we help our clients build long-term wealth through saving, investing, and more. As a Senior Staff designer on the Cash team, you will be a key part of expanding how we help clients build long-term wealth by identifying new opportunities across teams and surfaces. You won't just be designing in a silo; you’ll be connecting the dots between Cash and the broader Wealthfront ecosystem to create a seamless financial home.
Design at Wealthfront
Designers at Wealthfront transform complex financial technology into simple and delightful experiences. Our commitment to our clients and high bar for craft set us apart from traditional financial institutions, fostering trust with our clients and empowering them to build lasting wealth on their own terms. We pride ourselves on our meticulous attention to detail, consistently striving for excellence in all areas of our craft. We place just as much emphasis on the words we use to communicate with our clients as we do the interactive elements of our experiences. This shows up in our team structures—we have nearly a 1:1 ratio of content designers to product designers. We understand how design plays an important role in the success of our business and we are active participants in various leadership forums. Collaboration is at the core of our approach. We work closely with our counterparts in engineering, product management, research, data science, legal, and compliance to define opportunities and explore solutions. We are equal partners in making strategic decisions and defining impactful roadmaps. We embrace a culture of continuous learning, prioritizing the magnitude of our successes over the percentage of times we are successful. Most importantly, we love what we do! We are passionate about our mission, the financial technology space, and our clients. We take pride in our culture with a high bar, and a low ego. We’re a remote friendly team and open to candidates in the US.

About Wealthfront
Here at Wealthfront, our mission is to create a financial system that favors people, not institutions. We do this by leveraging technology to build powerful, low-cost, and easy-to-use financial products that help modern investors grow and manage their money. We started with the ambition to transform the investment advisory business. By automating strategies typically reserved for the wealthy, we unlocked access to high quality investment advice for a digitally-native generation that was underserved by traditional institutions. Since then, we've expanded to a full suite of products designed to help our clients turn their savings into long-term wealth, including:
- A Cash Account that, through our partner banks, offers one of the highest annual percentage yields on uninvested cash in the industry, while providing instant and secure access to your money with no account fees and a full suite of checking features.
- A zero-commission Stock Investing Account with 50+ handpicked collections that help DIY investors discover new companies and make smarter investing decisions.
- Multiple automated investing portfolios designed to unlock tax savings through sophisticated strategies like fixed income, tax-loss harvesting, and direct indexing—which we offer at industry-leading low costs and accessible minimums.
Our award-winning products have attracted over 1 million clients who trust us with more than $90 billion of their hard earned savings—and we're far from done. If you’re inspired to help us reshape the financial industry as we create our next chapter, let’s talk!
We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
Disclosures: All investing involves risk, including the possible loss of principal. Tax-Loss Harvesting benefits vary depending on the client's entire tax and investment profile. Wealthfront doesn’t provide tax advice. The Cash Account is offered by Wealthfront Brokerage LLC (“Wealthfront Brokerage”), Member of FINRA/SIPC. Wealthfront Brokerage is not a bank. We convey funds to partner banks who accept and maintain deposits, provide the variable interest rate, and provide access to FDIC pass-through insurance. Investment management and advisory services—which are not FDIC insured—are provided by Wealthfront Advisers LLC (“Wealthfront Advisers”), an SEC-registered investment adviser. The checking features offered in the Wealthfront Cash Account are provided by Green Dot Bank, Member FDIC. Fees and Eligibility requirements may apply to certain checking features, please see the Deposit Account Agreement for details. Lead with design systems and scope
H-1B specialty occupation requires a directly related degree. Framing your experience around systems-level work, design systems, multi-platform architecture, org-wide standards, signals the specialized knowledge USCIS expects at this seniority level.
Quantify your cross-functional impact
Sponsors filing your petition need to justify a specialty occupation claim. Concrete outcomes like retention improvements, conversion lifts, or engineering hours saved give immigration counsel the specificity required to build a strong LCA and I-129.
Clarify your degree field early
HCI, graphic design, and fine arts degrees can qualify for H-1B if the role requires that specific field. Flag any degree mismatch upfront so your employer's attorney can assess whether a combination of education and experience resolves it before filing.
Position yourself for O-1A if H-1B lottery fails
Senior Staff designers with published work, speaking credits, awards, or press coverage may qualify for O-1A extraordinary ability. Document these signals now, they're the evidence base if you need a lottery-independent path after an unsuccessful registration.
Target companies with repeat H-1B filings for designers
Not all tech employers sponsor at this level. Prioritize companies with a documented history of H-1B approvals for product design roles. DOL LCA disclosure data confirms whether a specific employer has filed for comparable positions before.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified sponsoring employers
Migrate Mate surfaces Senior Staff Product Designer roles at companies actively willing to sponsor. Filtering by visa type saves weeks of outreach to employers who won't sponsor at all, letting you focus on conversations that can actually move forward.

Find Senior Staff Product Designer JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Staff Product Designer role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, in most cases. Senior Staff Product Designer is generally treated as a specialty occupation because it requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field, typically HCI, interaction design, industrial design, or a closely related discipline. The key is that the role must require the degree, not merely prefer it. Employers should ensure the job description reflects this requirement explicitly before filing.
What degree field do I need for H-1B sponsorship as a Senior Staff Product Designer?
USCIS accepts degrees in human-computer interaction, interaction design, graphic design, industrial design, and sometimes computer science or cognitive science when the coursework directly supports the role. A general fine arts degree with no design specialization can create problems. If your degree field is borderline, three years of progressive, relevant work experience can substitute for one year of education under the degree equivalency rule.
How often does USCIS approve H-1B petitions for product design roles?
Approval rates for product design H-1B petitions are generally strong when the job description clearly articulates the specialty occupation requirement. The bigger obstacle at this stage is the H-1B lottery, where selection rates have hovered around 20 to 25 percent in recent registration cycles. Companies with cap-exempt status, universities, nonprofits affiliated with research, can bypass the lottery entirely, which is worth factoring into your employer search.
Can I get sponsored as a Senior Staff Product Designer without winning the H-1B lottery?
Yes. The O-1A visa for extraordinary ability is the most practical alternative for designers at this seniority level. USCIS evaluates criteria including original contributions of major significance, published material about your work, judging or reviewing others' work, and critical employment in distinguished organizations. Senior Staff designers who have shipped widely recognized products, spoken at industry conferences, or been featured in design press often have more qualifying evidence than they realize.
Where can I find Senior Staff Product Designer jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find these roles. It surfaces Senior Staff Product Designer positions specifically at employers willing to sponsor, so you're not wasting time on applications that will stall at the visa question. At this seniority level, sponsorship conversations happen early, often in the first recruiter screen, so targeting verified sponsoring companies from the start is the most efficient approach.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Senior Staff Product Designer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
