Verify your CPA credentials transfer correctly
If you earned your CPA license outside the U.S., confirm USCIS will recognize it alongside your degree. Some employers require a U.S. CPA or state board equivalency evaluation before filing your H-1B petition.
Use OFLC Wage Search before salary negotiations
Pull the prevailing wage for Tax Services Manager under SOC code 13-2011 in your target metro. Your employer's LCA must meet that floor, so knowing it in advance prevents offers that USCIS will flag during adjudication.
Target firms with dedicated global mobility teams
Big Four and second-tier public accounting firms process H-1B petitions routinely through in-house immigration counsel. Firms without a mobility function often stall at the LCA filing stage, costing you months in the annual cap cycle.
Search H-1B filing history on Migrate Mate
Filter by Tax Services Manager or related accounting titles to see which employers filed LCAs for this role in recent years. Employers with consistent filing history are far less likely to withdraw sponsorship mid-process.
Time your offer to align with the April cap window
H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed for an October 1 start date, with the lottery registration opening in March. Accepting an offer in Q1 gives your employer time to prepare the LCA and I-129 before USCIS's submission window opens.
Clarify whether your role qualifies as cap-exempt
Tax Services Managers employed by universities, nonprofit research organizations, or government entities may qualify for cap-exempt H-1B filing. Cap-exempt petitions can be submitted year-round with no lottery, which changes how you should prioritize your job search.
H-1B Visa Tax Services Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Tax Services Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes. Tax Services Manager consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation because the role requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or taxation. USCIS evaluates the job duties and the degree requirement together, so employers should document that the position requires specialized tax knowledge, not just general business acumen, in their H-1B petition.
Which employers most commonly sponsor H-1B visas for Tax Services Manager positions?
Public accounting firms across all tiers sponsor this title most frequently, along with the tax departments of large multinationals and financial services companies. Employers that regularly handle cross-border tax compliance tend to have established H-1B filing infrastructure. You can browse employers with verified LCA filing history for this role on Migrate Mate.
Does my employer need to pay a specific wage to file an H-1B for this role?
Yes. Before filing your H-1B petition, your employer must obtain a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL confirming your offered wage meets or exceeds the prevailing wage for Tax Services Manager in your work location. You can look up the applicable prevailing wage using the OFLC Wage Search tool by SOC code and metro area.
Can I change employers while on H-1B status as a Tax Services Manager?
Yes, through H-1B portability. Once USCIS has received and accepted your transfer petition from the new employer, you can begin working there even before approval, provided your previous H-1B was lawfully approved and you've maintained valid status. The new employer files a fresh I-129 and LCA, and any gap between jobs affects your status clock.
Does a non-U.S. accounting degree satisfy H-1B specialty occupation requirements?
It can, but the degree must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency. USCIS typically requires a credential evaluation from a recognized agency confirming your foreign degree is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's or higher in a relevant field. Some employers also require proof that your qualifications are recognized by a U.S. state CPA board before proceeding with the petition.
