H-1B1 Singapore Visa Automation Engineer Jobs
Automation Engineer roles qualify for H-1B1 Singapore visa sponsorship because they meet the specialty occupation standard requiring a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field. Singapore nationals bypass the H-1B lottery entirely, with the 5,400-visa annual cap rarely approaching its limit and consulate processing replacing USCIS petition review.

INTRODUCTION
Rivian’s Hardware Engineering team designs the complex electronics that power our industry-leading vehicles. To keep our hardware development agile, error-free, and operating at scale, we need robust software pipelines.
As an Automation Engineer, EDA (Electronic Design Automation), you will bridge the gap between software development and hardware design. Focused on the Cadence Allegro X ecosystem and Altium, you will develop custom tools, scripts, and backend integrations that empower our electrical engineers to design better circuit boards, faster. You will work directly with PCB layout engineers, schematic designers, and system architects to eliminate bottlenecks, automate repetitive tasks, and seamlessly connect our electrical design applications with enterprise backend systems. You will help develop solutions to analyze results from EDA tools and workflows in the epoch of emerging Agentic AI frameworks.
If you are a recent graduate passionate about software engineering, electronics, and building tools that bring physical products to life, this is the perfect role for you.
YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Tool Development: Design, develop, and deploy custom tools and applications including automation scripts and add-ons to the EDA tools such as Cadence Allegro X environment (using SKILL, TCL, Python, or C/C++).
- Backend Integration: Build robust backend pipelines connecting EDA tools with other critical electrical design applications.
- Workflow Optimization: Collaborate closely with Hardware and PCB Layout Engineers to identify workflow inefficiencies, gather requirements, and build software solutions that reduce manual errors and accelerate design cycles.
- Data Management: Develop tools to automate the data extraction from EDA tools and creating custom verifications.
- Code Quality: Write clean, documented, and maintainable code, actively participating in code reviews and utilizing version control (Git) within an agile development framework.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field (Recent or upcoming graduate).
- Programming Skills: Strong foundational knowledge of object-oriented programming and scripting languages, such as Python. Experience integrating software via REST APIs, GraphQL, or working with enterprise databases (SQL/NoSQL).
- Domain Knowledge: A basic understanding of electrical engineering concepts, PCB, Package design workflows.
- Problem Solving: A highly analytical mindset with the ability to break down complex, multi-step engineering workflows into logical software requirements.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain software concepts to hardware engineers and vice versa.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with TCL, SKILL programming language or developing with Cadence APIs.
- Experience with Data visualization technologies such as three.js or Canvas.
- Familiarity with the Cadence Allegro Suite (Design Entry HDL, System Capture, Allegro PCB Designer).
- Previous internship or project experience involving hardware-in-the-loop, EDA toolchains, or PLM systems (like Enovia or Teamcenter).

Map your degree to SOC codes
Automation Engineer roles file under SOC codes like 17-2199 or 15-1299 depending on the work. Pull your O*NET occupation profile before applying so you can match your engineering degree field to the job's specialty occupation classification.
Verify prevailing wage before negotiating
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your location and SOC code. Run the OFLC Wage Search before offer negotiations so you know the floor your employer is legally required to meet.
Target employers already filing H-1B1 LCAs
Use Migrate Mate to filter for companies with active H-1B1 Singapore LCA filing history in automation and controls engineering. These employers have already worked through the DOL certification process and won't need hand-holding on the visa type.
Ask about E-Verify enrollment upfront
H-1B1 visa employment requires your employer to be E-Verify enrolled or to enroll before your start date. Smaller manufacturers and systems integrators sometimes aren't enrolled, so confirm this before you accept an offer to avoid delays.
Prepare a specialty occupation documentation packet
Consular officers assess whether your specific Automation Engineer role genuinely requires a specialized degree. Bring a job duties breakdown, your academic transcripts, and your employer's written explanation of why the position requires your engineering discipline, not just any bachelor's.
Sequence your LCA certification before booking your interview
The DOL must certify your employer's LCA before you can schedule your H-1B1 consular interview in Singapore. DOL targets a seven-business-day certification window, but plan for variability and confirm certification is complete before locking in your appointment date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Automation Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Singapore?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific engineering or technical field such as electrical, mechanical, controls, or computer engineering. Roles where the employer accepts any degree or substitutes years of experience for the educational requirement can face consular scrutiny, so the job description needs to specify the degree field, not just preference for one.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa differ from H-1B for Automation Engineer roles?
The H-1B1 Singapore visa skips the H-1B lottery entirely and processes at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore rather than through a USCIS petition. The annual cap of 5,400 visas for Singapore nationals has never been exhausted. The trade-off is that H-1B1 doesn't confer dual intent, meaning you can't simultaneously pursue a green card while on H-1B1 status the way some H-1B holders do.
How do I find Automation Engineer employers who actively sponsor H-1B1 Singapore visas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by verified H-1B1 Singapore LCA filing history, so you can see which employers in automation, manufacturing, and systems integration have already completed DOL certifications for this visa type. That filing history is a reliable signal that the employer understands the process and won't treat your application as an experiment.
Can my employer file an H-1B1 for a contract or project-based Automation Engineer position?
Yes, but the LCA and the employment arrangement must reflect genuine employer-employee control. Project-based roles at a client site can raise questions about who actually supervises the work. Your employer needs to demonstrate direct supervision and control over your day-to-day duties, especially if you'll be placed at a third-party manufacturing or industrial facility.
What happens to my H-1B1 status if my Automation Engineer role changes significantly after I arrive?
A material change in job duties, title, location, or salary can require your employer to file an amended LCA with DOL before the change takes effect. Moving from a hands-on controls engineering role to a managerial position, for example, may shift your SOC classification. Your employer should confirm with USCIS and DOL whether the change triggers a new certification obligation before implementing it.
