H-1B1 Singapore Visa Development Engineer Jobs
Development Engineer jobs with H-1B1 Singapore visa sponsorship let you bypass the H-1B lottery entirely. Singaporean nationals qualify under the U.S.-Singapore Free Trade Agreement, and the 5,400-visa annual cap rarely fills. Employers file your LCA with DOL, then you apply at the consulate with no USCIS petition required.

Verify your degree field matches the role
H-1B1 Singapore requires your position to qualify as a specialty occupation. For Development Engineer roles, confirm your degree is in engineering, computer science, or a directly related field, since a general science degree may prompt additional consular scrutiny.
Search employer LCA filings on Migrate Mate
Pull verified DOL Labor Condition Application filing history by occupation code on Migrate Mate to identify which companies have sponsored Development Engineer roles before, so you're targeting employers who already understand the H-1B1 visa process.
Check prevailing wage before salary negotiations
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage meeting the DOL prevailing wage for your specific job zone and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search before your offer conversation so you know the floor and can negotiate from an informed position.
Distinguish your role from excluded R&D categories
Some Development Engineer positions overlap with pure research roles that consular officers scrutinize more closely for specialty occupation status. Pull the O*NET occupation profile for your exact job title and confirm that applied engineering duties, not basic research, define the role.
Confirm your employer can file the LCA promptly
DOL must certify your LCA before you can schedule your consular appointment. Ask the hiring manager whether their legal team has filed H-1B1 Singapore LCAs before, since first-time filers sometimes underestimate the seven-business-day DOL processing window and delay your start date.
Prepare a clear nonimmigrant intent statement
H-1B1 Singapore does not allow dual intent, so consular officers will ask about your ties to Singapore and your post-assignment plans. Prepare a concise statement covering your Singaporean connections before your interview to address this directly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Development Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Singapore?
Yes, if the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a directly related field. Roles that accept any bachelor's degree regardless of field can fail the specialty occupation test. Check the O*NET profile for your specific job title to confirm the degree requirement is field-specific before your employer files the LCA.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa compare to H-1B for Development Engineer jobs?
H-1B1 Singapore has no lottery and no USCIS petition requirement, which means you can start the process after receiving a job offer without waiting for an annual lottery window. The tradeoff is that H-1B1 Singapore does not allow dual intent, so you can't use it as a stepping stone to a green card the way some H-1B holders do. For Singaporean nationals, the faster and more predictable timeline is usually the deciding factor.
How do I find Development Engineer employers who already sponsor H-1B1 Singapore visas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by verified DOL Labor Condition Application filing history, so you can see which companies have filed for Development Engineer roles under H-1B1 Singapore. Targeting employers with prior LCA filings significantly reduces the risk of a sponsorship process breaking down because the company is unfamiliar with the requirements.
Can my H-1B1 Singapore status be renewed if my Development Engineer contract extends?
H-1B1 Singapore is granted in two-year increments with no statutory limit on renewals, so you can extend as long as you maintain a qualifying job offer and your employer files a new LCA each cycle. Unlike H-1B, renewals do not require a new USCIS petition, but you will need to return to a consulate for a new visa stamp if your current stamp expires.
What should I do if my employer has never filed an H-1B1 Singapore LCA before?
Ask their legal or HR team to confirm they can meet the DOL's seven-business-day LCA certification window. First-time filers sometimes miss that the LCA must be certified before your consular appointment can be scheduled, which can delay your start date by weeks. USCIS and DOL both publish guidance on the process, and sharing that with your employer's counsel early avoids last-minute complications.
