Verify your credentials meet specialty occupation
Construction Manager roles require a bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a directly related field. Pull your O*NET occupation profile to confirm the degree requirement before applying, since U.S. consular officers will assess specialty occupation eligibility at your interview.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search Migrate Mate to filter Construction Manager roles by employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for H-1B1 Singapore candidates, so you're applying to companies already familiar with the consulate-based process rather than explaining it from scratch.
Benchmark your offered salary against prevailing wage
Your employer must certify on the LCA that your wage meets or exceeds the DOL prevailing wage for Construction Managers in that metro area. Run the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating your offer so you know the floor and can flag any gap early.
Confirm your employer will file the LCA before you resign
Unlike H-1B visa, H-1B1 visa processing happens at the consulate, not USCIS, but the employer still files the LCA with DOL first. Get written confirmation of the LCA filing timeline before giving notice to your current employer in Singapore.
Prepare Singapore-issued project credentials for your interview
U.S. consular officers reviewing Construction Manager applications expect documentation of project scope and supervisory responsibility. Bring Building and Construction Authority registration records or BCA-certified project completion certificates alongside your academic transcripts.
Understand the 18-month validity and plan your renewal
H-1B1 Singapore visas are issued in 18-month increments with no statutory limit on renewals, but each renewal requires a new LCA and consulate appointment. Confirm your employer's renewal process before signing your contract so there's no gap in authorization.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Construction Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Singapore?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, architecture, or a closely related field. Roles that accept any degree regardless of field, or that substitute years of experience for a degree requirement, may not satisfy the specialty occupation standard. Your employer documents the degree requirement in the Labor Condition Application submitted to DOL.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa compare to H-1B for Construction Manager roles?
H-1B1 Singapore has no lottery, a dedicated annual cap of 5,400 visas that consistently goes unfilled, and is processed at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore rather than through USCIS. H-1B requires employer-sponsored USCIS filing, a lottery selection, and a cap of 85,000 that is heavily oversubscribed. For Singaporean nationals, H-1B1 is a significantly more predictable path.
How do I find Construction Manager employers who sponsor H-1B1 Singapore visas?
Use Migrate Mate to search Construction Manager roles filtered by employers with H-1B1 Singapore Labor Condition Application history. This surfaces companies already familiar with the consulate-based process, which matters because many U.S. construction firms have H-1B experience but haven't previously filed for H-1B1 Singapore candidates and may need guidance on the differences.
Can my employer start the H-1B1 Singapore process while I'm still in Singapore?
Yes, and that's the standard path. Your employer files the Labor Condition Application with DOL, receives certification, then provides the certified LCA and a support letter for your consular application at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore. You don't need to be in the U.S. to initiate or complete the process, which makes the H-1B1 visa well-suited to Singaporean professionals hiring from abroad.
What project documentation should I bring to my H-1B1 Singapore consular interview as a Construction Manager?
Bring your academic degree certificate, your employer's certified LCA, a detailed offer letter stating your title and salary, and evidence of your construction management experience such as BCA project records, site supervisor certifications, or scope-of-work documentation. Consular officers assess both your qualifications and the legitimacy of the specialty occupation claim, so project-level evidence strengthens your application.
