Verify your degree meets specialty occupation standards
Your bachelor's degree must align directly with the technical scope of a Senior Solutions Engineer role. A degree in information systems or electrical engineering qualifies; a general business degree typically won't without supplementary coursework or credentials on record.
Search employers using DOL LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter employers by H-1B1 visa Labor Condition Application filings for solutions engineering roles. Employers with active LCA history have already navigated the DOL certification process and are far more likely to move quickly on an offer.
Target companies already enrolled in E-Verify
E-Verify enrollment isn't required for H-1B1 visa sponsorship, but it signals an employer has the HR infrastructure to handle work authorization documentation. Prioritize companies where the hiring team can confirm their I-9 and E-Verify process before you reach the offer stage.
Clarify the LCA filing timeline before accepting an offer
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with DOL before your consulate appointment. Ask your hiring contact whether their legal team has handled H-1B1 visa filings specifically, since the process differs from standard H-1B visa petitions and some attorneys aren't familiar with the Singapore-specific track.
Pull the O*NET profile for your exact job title
The O*NET occupation profile for Solutions Engineers outlines the degree requirements and core competencies DOL and consular officers expect to see. Align your resume and supporting documents to the listed technical tasks so your application clearly satisfies the specialty occupation definition.
Book your consulate appointment immediately after LCA certification
Once your employer receives DOL certification, schedule your Singapore consulate interview without delay. The H-1B1 visa is processed entirely at the consulate with no USCIS adjudication, so your start date depends on appointment availability rather than petition processing times.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Solutions Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Yes. Senior Solutions Engineer roles require at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a closely related technical field, which satisfies the specialty occupation definition. The role's combination of technical architecture, client-facing problem solving, and systems integration work consistently supports this classification in consular review.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa compare to the H-1B for this role?
The H-1B1 visa skips the H-1B lottery entirely, has no USCIS petition requirement, and is adjudicated directly at the Singapore consulate. The trade-off is that the H-1B1 visa doesn't confer dual intent, so it's better suited to professionals who aren't simultaneously pursuing a green card. For most Singaporean solutions engineers focused on gaining U.S. work experience, the H-1B1 is the faster, more reliable path.
How do I find employers who have sponsored H-1B1 visas for solutions engineering roles?
Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified DOL Labor Condition Application filing history filtered by occupation and visa type, so you can identify companies that have already run the H-1B1 visa process for technical roles. This is more reliable than asking recruiters, who often conflate H-1B1 sponsorship with standard H-1B sponsorship.
What happens to my H-1B1 status if my employer terminates me early?
If your employer terminates you, your H-1B1 visa status ends and you have a grace period of up to 60 days to find a new sponsoring employer, change to another visa status, or depart the U.S. The new employer must file a fresh Labor Condition Application and you'll need a new consulate appointment before re-entering on the updated H-1B1.
Can I negotiate my salary below the prevailing wage listed in the LCA?
No. DOL requires your employer to pay at least the prevailing wage certified in the Labor Condition Application. You can negotiate above that figure, but your actual compensation can't fall below what the LCA certifies without triggering a wage violation. Use the OFLC Wage Search to confirm the prevailing wage for your occupation and work location before entering salary discussions.
