Head Of Content Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a head of content in New York?
New York does not require a state-issued license to work as a head of content, so the path runs through education and experience. Most candidates hold a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or marketing, often from one of New York's many universities. From there, the typical route is several years in writing or editorial roles, progressing through senior content manager or content director positions before reaching a head of content title at a media company, agency, or major brand.
How much do head of contents make in New York?
Head of contents in New York earn a median of about $107,550 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $61,960 for the lowest 10% to over $222,580 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire head of contents in New York?
Employers hiring head of contents in New York right now include Rippling, Anthropic, and COGENCY GLOBAL, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's density of media houses, global advertising agencies, and Fortune 500 headquarters makes it one of the broadest markets for this role in the country.
Which New York cities have the most head of content jobs?
New York and New York City are the cities with the most head of content openings in New York. New York City drives the overwhelming share of demand thanks to its concentration of media companies, advertising agencies, and major brand headquarters, while Buffalo and Albany generate openings through regional healthcare systems, universities, and state government communications teams.
Are there remote head of content jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 25% of head of content openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how thoroughly this role centers on strategy, writing, and cross-functional collaboration rather than on-site operations. Editorial strategy and content operations roles tend to be the most remote-friendly, while brand content positions at larger New York companies more often require some in-office presence.

Large media organizations like Condé Nast and NBCUniversal run structured associate editorial programs, and New York's advertising agencies regularly hire junior content strategists as a stepping stone. A strong portfolio of published work, proficiency in SEO tools, and familiarity with content management systems give candidates without formal leadership experience a meaningful edge.
