- Analytics & SEO: Own reporting on content performance, SEO, and listening tools; translate insights into recommendations that drive reach and conversion.
- Innovation & Workflow Optimization: Pilot automation and AI tools to improve production efficiency and accelerate distribution.
- Leadership & Enablement: Serve as an advisor to marketing leadership; coach GTM teams on how to best leverage content in field, customer, and partner interactions. Manage the content and social marketing team of FTEs, freelancers, and agencies.

Tips for Your Head Of Content Job Search
Quantify your editorial impact clearly
Hiring teams want to see what your content programs moved, not just what you managed. Reframe your resume bullets around outcomes: organic traffic growth, content-to-pipeline attribution, team headcount you grew, or publication cadence you scaled.
Build a portfolio beyond writing samples
A head of content role is a leadership position, so your portfolio should showcase strategy docs, editorial calendars, content frameworks, and briefs you developed, not just polished articles. Show the thinking behind the output, not only the output itself.
Target openings that match your content model
Head of content roles vary widely: some are pure editorial, others blend SEO, demand generation, or product marketing. Filter openings by reading the reporting structure. If you report to the CMO, expect brand and pipeline accountability. If you report to the CPO, expect product-led content priorities.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists head of content openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare a content audit as an interview asset
Many head of content interviews include a take-home exercise or case study around auditing existing content. Arrive ready with a framework you've used before: how you'd assess quality, identify gaps, and prioritize what to fix first for business impact.
Negotiate scope alongside salary
When an offer comes, get clarity on headcount authority, budget ownership, and whether the role includes managing freelancers or agencies. Content leaders often find the title is senior but the resources are thin, so align on those specifics before you accept.
Head Of Content Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most head of contents?
The companies hiring the most head of contents right now include Rippling, State Street, and Goldman Sachs, with the largest share of openings in New York, California, and Massachusetts, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand tends to be highest at growth-stage SaaS companies, digital media brands, and large e-commerce organizations building out in-house content teams.
How many head of content jobs are remote?
About 31% of head of content openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, making it one of the more location-flexible senior marketing roles available. Sub-specializations in SEO-driven content and digital editorial tend to have the highest concentration of fully remote openings compared to brand or multimedia-focused roles.
How do you become a head of content?
Most head of content professionals move into the role after leading a content team as a manager or senior strategist. The path typically involves building deep expertise in one content discipline, such as SEO, editorial, or social, then expanding your scope to own strategy across channels. Demonstrating business impact, not just content volume, is what separates candidates who advance to the head level from those who stay in individual contributor roles.
Can you get hired as a head of content with limited leadership experience?
Getting hired as a head of content with limited leadership experience is possible at smaller companies or early-stage startups that are building a content function from scratch. In those environments, being the first or only content hire means you'll lead by default. To compensate for a thin management resume, show evidence of cross-functional influence: campaigns you drove without direct authority, freelancers or agencies you directed, or strategic frameworks that shaped how others created content.
What does the head of content interview process look like?
The head of content interview process typically runs across three to four rounds. An initial screening with a recruiter or HR contact is followed by a hiring manager conversation focused on your strategic experience and leadership philosophy. From there, expect a panel interview with marketing or product stakeholders and almost always a take-home assignment asking you to audit existing content or draft a content strategy for a hypothetical scenario. Final rounds often involve a presentation to senior leadership.
Where can I find and apply to head of content jobs?
You can find and apply to head of content jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and specialization, and apply directly to each listing without leaving the platform.
