Senior Data Analyst — Power BI & Microsoft Fabric | Active Secret
Location: Remote — U.S.
Clearance: Active Secret
Why This Role
Rackner is seeking a Senior Data Analyst to help modernize enterprise analytics within a Microsoft data environment.
This is more than a dashboard-development role. You'll help shape the semantic models, KPI standards, reporting products, security controls, and reusable analytics foundations that enable leaders and operational teams to make trusted decisions.
Working across business stakeholders, data engineering, governance, and technical teams, you'll have the opportunity to influence how analytics products are designed, modernized, governed, and adopted across the organization.
If you've built strong Power BI solutions and are ready for broader ownership, this role offers the opportunity to influence the analytics architecture, standards, modernization strategy, and product portfolio behind those solutions—not just the final visualization.
What You'll Do
- Lead the design and modernization of enterprise analytics and business intelligence solutions using Power BI and Microsoft Fabric
- Shape governed semantic models, shared datasets, KPI definitions, and reusable analytical components
- Build and optimize executive, operational, and compliance reporting that supports mission and business decisions
- Modernize legacy reporting by evaluating usage, redundancy, technical debt, performance, and opportunities for consolidation
- Standardize fragmented dashboards and reports into scalable enterprise analytics products
- Develop advanced DAX measures, calculations, business logic, and Power Query transformations
- Secure analytics products through row-level and object-level access controls aligned with data-governance requirements
- Enable self-service analytics while maintaining appropriate security, governance, and data-quality controls
- Assess Power BI licensing, capacity, and deployment approaches based on organizational needs
- Translate stakeholder needs into analytical requirements, functional specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria
- Partner across data engineering, governance, application, and source-system teams to move analytics products from requirements through adoption
- Solve complex semantic-modeling, reporting, performance, reconciliation, and data-quality challenges
- Influence analytics strategy, roadmap decisions, portfolio priorities, and reporting standards
- Explore forecasting, predictive analytics, and AI-assisted analytics where they provide practical value
- Support demonstrations, user acceptance testing, documentation, and adoption of analytics products
What Makes Someone Successful Here
We're most interested in candidates who can discuss specific work they personally owned, the decisions they made, and the outcomes they helped deliver. You do not need to check every box.
A strong match will bring:
- Deep hands-on capability with Microsoft Power BI
- Strong command of DAX and Power Query
- A track record building or maintaining semantic models and governed analytical datasets
- Understanding of enterprise BI architecture, KPI design, and reporting standards
- Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric or a comparable modern analytics platform
- Ability to modernize, consolidate, or migrate reporting environments
- Working knowledge of analytics security, governance, data quality, and access controls
- Familiarity with row-level security or similar data-access models
- Ability to translate business needs into practical, scalable analytical solutions
- Strong stakeholder skills across requirements discovery, delivery, and adoption
- Ability to troubleshoot analytical, modeling, performance, and data-quality issues
- Clear communication across technical and non-technical audiences
- Active Secret clearance
Helpful, Not Required
Additional strengths may include:
- Advanced Microsoft Fabric semantic-modeling work
- Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate
- Object-level security and enterprise Power BI governance
- Dashboard portfolio rationalization or consolidation
- Governed self-service analytics
- Power BI licensing, capacity, or deployment strategy
- Forecasting or predictive analytics
- Copilot-assisted or other AI-enabled analytics capabilities
- Data lineage, metadata management, or data cataloging
- Federal, Department of Defense, education, or other regulated enterprise environments

Tips for Your Senior Microsoft Fabric Engineer Job Search
Tailor your resume to Fabric workloads
Hiring managers scan for OneLake, Lakehouse, and Data Warehouse keywords tied to specific outcomes. Replace vague phrases like 'data engineering experience' with concrete Fabric artifacts you built, the data volumes involved, and the business problem solved.
Certify before your job search starts
The DP-600 Fabric Analytics Engineer certification signals hands-on platform fluency and filters you into shortlists that automated screening would otherwise skip. Employers increasingly list it as preferred or required, so earning it before applying strengthens every application.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists senior microsoft fabric engineer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target companies mid-migration from Azure Synapse
Organizations actively moving from Azure Synapse Analytics to Fabric need experienced engineers who understand both platforms. Spotting job postings that mention Synapse migration, legacy pipelines, or ADF-to-Fabric transitions puts you in front of employers with urgent, senior-level needs.
Prepare a Fabric architecture walkthrough
Most senior-level interviews include a live or whiteboard session where you design an end-to-end Fabric solution. Practice explaining medallion architecture, DirectLake mode trade-offs, and security model choices out loud so your reasoning is clear under interview conditions.
Negotiate scope before salary details
In offers for senior fabric roles, clarify whether the position owns architecture decisions or executes someone else's design. Scope and ownership affect long-term career growth more than base compensation, and raising it early signals seniority to the hiring team.
Senior Microsoft Fabric Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most senior microsoft fabric engineers?
The companies hiring the most senior microsoft fabric engineers right now include Rackner, 2020 Companies, and Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod LLP, with the largest share of openings in Texas, California, and Florida, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Demand is especially concentrated at enterprises undergoing large-scale cloud data modernization programs.
How many senior microsoft fabric engineer jobs are remote?
About 73% of senior microsoft fabric engineer openings are fully remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the cloud-native nature of the Fabric platform. Sub-specializations in data lakehouse architecture and Power BI integration tend to have the highest share of fully remote positions, while roles focused on enterprise rollout and stakeholder enablement more often require on-site presence.
How do you become a senior microsoft fabric engineer?
Start by building foundational skills in Azure data services, then move into hands-on Fabric work by building Lakehouse, pipeline, and semantic model projects in a personal or organizational tenant. Earn the DP-600 certification to validate platform-specific knowledge. Accumulate experience designing end-to-end solutions, mentoring junior engineers, and owning architecture decisions, which is what distinguishes senior-level candidates from mid-level ones.
Can you get hired as a senior microsoft fabric engineer with limited Fabric experience?
Yes, if your background in adjacent platforms is strong. Employers hiring for senior fabric roles frequently consider engineers with deep Azure Synapse Analytics, Databricks, or Power BI Premium expertise, because Fabric draws heavily from all three. Building a portfolio project that migrates a Synapse or Databricks pipeline into Fabric demonstrates initiative and closes the platform-experience gap more effectively than certifications alone.
What does the senior microsoft fabric engineer interview process look like?
Most processes include an initial recruiter screen, a technical phone interview focused on data architecture and SQL or PySpark, and a final-round panel or take-home case study. The case study typically asks you to design a Fabric solution for a business scenario, covering ingestion, transformation, storage layer choices, and reporting. Senior-level candidates are also assessed on stakeholder communication and their ability to justify architectural trade-offs.
Where can I find and apply to senior microsoft fabric engineer jobs?
