The MD will advise on and customize Citi solutions for PSB clients across sovereign, multilateral, and public sector segments.
The work of the MD will consist, on the advisory side, of leading a wide variety of complex projects requiring macroeconomic analysis, sovereign credit, and political risk assessment, as well as sovereign debt sustainability analysis. Business Management: Lead strategic revenue analysis and franchise reviews in partnership with the Global Head of PSB and senior leadership. Oversee preparation of materials for Citi's most senior executives to present and speak at global events and conferences on government financing and public sector topics, requiring seamless coordination across regions and time zones.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with every product group at Citi globally to deliver integrated, bespoke solutions for sovereign and public sector clients.

Managing Director Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a managing director in New York?
The managing director title in New York is earned through progression rather than a state-issued license, with the typical path running from analyst or associate through vice president before reaching MD level. In financial services, FINRA Series 7 and Series 24 registrations are required by most broker-dealers before someone can supervise registered activities. In consulting and corporate sectors, an MBA from a recognized program and sustained client-facing results carry the most weight with New York hiring committees.
How much do managing directors make in New York?
Managing directors in New York earn a median of about $130,860 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $62,340 for the lowest 10% to over $336,070 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire managing directors in New York?
Employers hiring managing directors in New York right now include Citi, JPMorganChase, and BDO, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New York's concentration of global bank headquarters, private equity firms, and management consultancies means the MD title is particularly active in finance and advisory, making it one of the densest hiring pools for this level anywhere in the country.
Which New York cities have the most managing director jobs?
New York, Brooklyn, and Bronx account for the largest share of managing director openings in New York. Manhattan drives volume through its density of investment banks, asset managers, and consulting firms headquartered or regionally anchored there, while Buffalo and Albany carry demand from regional financial institutions, state government-adjacent organizations, and healthcare systems that need senior operational leadership.
Are there remote managing director jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're less common than at lower seniority levels. About 52% of managing director openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the expectation that MDs maintain direct client contact and in-person team presence. Strategy, certain technology leadership, and private equity portfolio oversight roles tend to offer the most flexibility within the remote or hybrid share.
How can I get hired as a managing director in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is targeting associate or vice president roles at New York financial institutions or consultancies and building toward MD designation internally. Firms like JPMorgan, Citi, and Deloitte run structured associate programs in New York that explicitly develop candidates for principal-level promotion. A FINRA Series 7 registration, an MBA from a New York-area program, or a strong deal or client portfolio signals readiness and accelerates the timeline considerably.
Where can I find and apply to managing director jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to managing director jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings updated continuously. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your background and target industry, and apply directly to each listing without any intermediate steps.
