Managing Director Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a managing director in New Jersey?
Becoming a managing director in New Jersey typically follows a path through progressive management roles in industries where the state concentrates its corporate presence, such as financial services, pharmaceuticals, and professional services. Most hiring managers expect an MBA or equivalent advanced degree from a recognized institution, combined with a long record of leading business units. New Jersey does not require a state-issued license for managing director roles in most industries, though financial services firms operating in the state may require FINRA registrations relevant to their regulated activities.
How much do managing directors make in New Jersey?
Managing directors in New Jersey earn a median of about $173,690 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,350 for the lowest 10% to over $372,770 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire managing directors in New Jersey?
Employers hiring managing directors in New Jersey right now include RBC, Citi, and Atrium, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New Jersey's dense concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters and regional financial institutions makes it one of the more consistent states for senior executive hiring throughout the year.
Which New Jersey cities have the most managing director jobs?
Jersey City, New Jersey, and Iselin account for the most managing director openings in New Jersey. Newark and Jersey City drive volume through their financial services and corporate headquarters clusters, while Princeton draws consistent demand from the pharmaceutical and professional services firms concentrated along the Route 1 corridor in central New Jersey.
Are there remote managing director jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely analytical or individual-contributor roles, since managing directors are generally expected to lead teams, meet with boards, and maintain an operational presence. About 33% of managing director openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with hybrid arrangements far more prevalent than fully remote. Strategy-focused or holding-company managing director roles tend to offer the most schedule flexibility.
How can I get hired as a managing director in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is building a record in director-level or senior manager roles within New Jersey's dominant industries before making the step up. Large employers like Prudential Financial, Merck, and Cognizant regularly hire into director or associate managing director roles that serve as direct pipelines into full managing director positions. Targeting a business unit that is growing, completing an MBA at Rutgers or a comparable program with strong New Jersey employer recruiting ties, and accumulating P&L ownership in a mid-size role all strengthen a candidacy meaningfully.
Where can I find and apply to managing director jobs in New Jersey?
