Hospital Social Worker Jobs in Indianapolis: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a hospital social worker job in Indianapolis?
Focus on Indianapolis's large academic medical centers and community hospital networks, which drive most local hiring. The Near Northside medical district and downtown health campuses post the highest volume of openings. Candidates with experience in discharge planning, care coordination, or behavioral health crisis intervention stand out. Familiarity with Indianapolis's unhoused and underinsured populations is a concrete advantage at safety-net hospitals and federally qualified health centers citywide.
Which companies hire hospital social workers in Indianapolis?
Employers hiring hospital social workers in Indianapolis right now include Indiana University Health, Community Health Network, and TouchPoint Support Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Indianapolis's hiring is led by large integrated health systems alongside community behavioral health organizations and rehabilitation networks serving the metro area.
Are there remote hospital social worker jobs in Indianapolis?
Yes, but only for a narrow slice of the role. Hospital social work is primarily on-site because it requires in-person patient assessment, discharge coordination, and interdisciplinary team rounds. About 33% of hospital social worker openings tied to Indianapolis are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, concentrated in utilization review, telehealth care management, and insurance case coordination functions. Bedside and inpatient roles remain fully on-site.
How can I get a hospital social worker job in Indianapolis with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Indianapolis is a field placement or practicum at one of the city's community health or rehabilitation facilities, which frequently convert students and recent graduates into staff. Entry-level care coordinator and case manager roles at Indianapolis's federally qualified health centers and community mental health agencies offer a lateral path into inpatient settings. Bilingual candidates, particularly Spanish speakers, have a measurable edge given the city's growing patient population.
