HVAC Jobs in San Diego: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a hvac job in San Diego?
Focus on San Diego's busiest hiring sectors: commercial property management firms along the I-15 corridor, general contractors active in Mission Valley and downtown redevelopment projects, and the military base support contractors at MCAS Miramar and Naval Base San Diego. Candidates with refrigerant handling certifications and experience on commercial rooftop units stand out locally, since large commercial installs dominate here over residential.
Which companies hire hvacs in San Diego?
Companies currently hiring hvacs in San Diego include Ontario Refrigeration Service, Guthrie and Sons Heating, Air & Energy, and HII, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. The local market is a mix of regional mechanical contractors, national facilities management firms with San Diego operations, and defense support contractors serving the county's large military presence.
Are there remote hvac jobs in San Diego?
Yes, but only for a narrow slice of roles, since most hvac work is hands-on and tied to a physical site. About 0% of hvac openings tied to San Diego are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions tend to be estimating, project management, or technical sales roles rather than installation or service technician work.
How can I get a hvac job in San Diego with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in San Diego is an apprenticeship through a local union, particularly with the Plumbers and Steamfitters or the Sheet Metal Workers, which have active programs tied to the region's commercial construction pipeline. Property management companies in Mission Hills and the UTC area also hire entry-level maintenance technicians who assist senior hvac staff, making those roles a practical foot in the door.
