HVAC Jobs in Columbia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a hvac job in Columbia?
The strongest path in Columbia is targeting the sectors that drive the most local hiring: commercial construction along the I-20 and I-26 corridors, facilities maintenance for the city's healthcare campuses and state government buildings, and residential service companies expanding into fast-growing suburbs like Lexington and Irmo. Candidates with sheet metal, refrigeration, or building automation experience stand out, as do those familiar with South Carolina's humid climate demands.
Which companies hire hvacs in Columbia?
Companies currently hiring hvacs in Columbia include Call Dad, A C Solutions, and EMCOR, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Columbia's mix of hospital systems, state agency facilities, and regional mechanical contractors makes it a consistent market for both commercial and residential hvac technicians.
Are there remote hvac jobs in Columbia?
Yes, but only for a narrow slice of roles, since most hvac work is hands-on and tied to a physical job site. About 21% of hvac openings tied to Columbia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, covering positions like estimating, sales engineering, and building controls programming. Field installation and service technician roles remain fully on-site.
How can I get a hvac job in Columbia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Columbia is an apprenticeship or helper role with a regional mechanical contractor or residential service company, several of which regularly hire entry-level candidates to support senior technicians on service calls. Midlands Technical College's HVAC program feeds directly into local employer pipelines. Targeting companies that handle state facility maintenance contracts is also a practical move, as those accounts generate consistent entry-level openings year-round.
Which industries hire the most hvacs in Columbia?
The sectors hiring the most hvacs in Columbia are Construction & Real Estate, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Columbia's large footprint of state government buildings, university facilities, and healthcare campuses creates sustained baseline demand that keeps hvac hiring relatively stable even when residential construction slows.
