Information Security Analyst Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a information security analyst job in Washington?
Washington's market is driven by federal contractors, civilian agencies, and defense-adjacent firms concentrated in the Capitol Hill corridor, Crystal City, and Rosslyn-Ballston. Candidates who hold active security clearances move significantly faster through hiring here than in most U.S. cities. Familiarity with federal compliance frameworks like FedRAMP and FISMA, and experience supporting government clients, give applicants a concrete edge over generalist candidates.
Which companies hire information security analysts in Washington?
Employers hiring information security analysts in Washington right now include MTSI, Everforth ECS, and SMX, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Washington's hiring base skews heavily toward government contractors, federal civilian agencies, and defense-focused technology firms that require candidates with public-sector security experience.
Are there remote information security analyst jobs in Washington?
Yes, though availability depends on clearance requirements: unclassified analytical and policy-oriented roles are frequently remote or hybrid, while positions requiring access to classified systems or government facilities are typically on-site. About 11% of information security analyst openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of July 2026. Threat intelligence, compliance, and risk assessment roles tend to offer the most schedule flexibility in this market.
How can I get a information security analyst job in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Washington is through federal contractor firms that run security operations centers and hire junior analysts to support government clients on non-classified programs. Entry-level roles with titles like security operations analyst or IT security associate are common at mid-tier contractors in Rosslyn and Crystal City. Earning CompTIA Security+ and pursuing an entry-level clearance eligibility through internship programs at federal agencies or defense contractors accelerates hiring significantly here.
Which industries hire the most information security analysts in Washington?
Most information security analyst openings in Washington sit in Education, Telecommunications, and Aerospace & Defense, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Washington's proximity to federal agencies and the density of defense and intelligence contracting firms make public-sector-adjacent work the dominant driver of local demand for this role.
