How do you become a information security intern in Idaho?
The most direct path is enrolling in a cybersecurity or computer science program at an Idaho institution such as Boise State University, University of Idaho, or Idaho State University, all of which offer programs aligned with employer expectations in the state. Idaho does not require a state-issued license to work as an information security intern, but earning a CompTIA Security+ certification before applying significantly strengthens candidacy with both government agencies and private employers in Idaho.
Which companies hire information security interns in Idaho?
Employers hiring information security interns in Idaho right now include State of Idaho, Idaho State University, and Madison Memorial Hospital, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Idaho's mix of defense contractors, state government technology offices, and technology manufacturers like Micron means internship roles range from federally focused security work to enterprise IT environments.
Which Idaho cities have the most information security intern jobs?
Boise, Idaho Falls, and Rexburg account for the most information security intern openings in Idaho. Boise dominates due to its concentration of state government agencies, financial services firms, and technology companies, while Idaho Falls draws intern demand from Idaho National Laboratory and its network of energy and defense contractors, and Meridian benefits from Boise's suburban employer expansion.
Are there remote information security intern jobs in Idaho?
Yes, and more than many technical fields, since much of the analytical and monitoring work in information security can be performed remotely. About 40% of information security intern openings tied to Idaho are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the desk-based nature of many entry-level tasks. Roles involving hands-on lab environments, sensitive government systems, or classified infrastructure typically require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a information security intern in Idaho with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying through university internship programs at Boise State University or University of Idaho, both of which maintain direct recruiting relationships with Idaho employers including state agencies and Idaho National Laboratory. Building a home lab, earning a CompTIA Security+ certification, and contributing to capture-the-flag competitions creates a concrete portfolio. Lateral entry from IT help desk or systems administration roles at Idaho employers is also a recognized path into security internships.
Where can I find and apply to information security intern jobs in Idaho?
